Rodado's double worth three points: Wisła - Miedź 2:0
Wisła Kraków defeated Miedź Legnica in the 24th round of the league. The match at R22 ended 2-0, with Angel Rodado scoring a brace in front of his home fans. We invite you to a short report from the match.
Wisła attempted to threaten their opponents from the very first whistle. They attacked with their entire team, with Duda and Krzyżanowski eagerly joining in the attack. However, it was the visitors who had the first real chance. Bogacz beat Uryga in a running duel and found himself one-on-one with Raton. However, the Spanish goalkeeper withstood the pressure and cleared the ball for a corner.
Coach Rude's players were eager to get back on track quickly. Rodado made a good save with the ball just outside the opponent's penalty area. He was brought down by a Legnica defender, and the referee awarded a free kick from around the 20-meter mark. The injured player himself stepped up to the plate, hitting the crossbar and sending the ball out of play.
The final touch of the first quarter, however, belonged to the visitors again. Miedź launched a quick counterattack, leaving the visiting striker facing a virtually empty net. Fortunately for the hosts, he mishandled the ball, sending it flying over the line. The White Star was attacking more frequently, but the players in blue were having far more dangerous chances.
Around the 20th minute, after a long throw-in from a set piece, Colley found the ball amidst the chaos in the Miedź penalty area. He fired a shot that found the post. Sobczak then reached the ball and slotted it into the net, but his celebrations were quickly cut short by referee Kwiatkowski's whistle, signaling an offside position.
The pace of the game slowed somewhat from that point on. Clear-cut chances were scarce on either side. Wisła often tried to find through passes that would cut through their opponents' well-paced defensive line. However, these attempts were unsuccessful, and the referee soon called everyone to the locker room for halftime. After the first 45 minutes, the score was goalless.
Changing sides
The second half could have started with a goal for Wisła right away. The visiting goalkeeper miscued an attempt to play the ball from the back, sending the ball straight to the feet of the alert Sobczak. However, the defenders reacted very consciously to Mądrzyk's misplay, quickly correcting their teammate's mistake. The opening minutes of the second half were marked by noticeable inaccuracy on both sides. Moments later, the Krakow team played misplaced passes, which the Green-Blue-Reds came close to capitalizing on. From then on, the game calmed down considerably, and the hour-long match ended on that note.
Both coaches wanted to stimulate their teams' play by making rotations. These were good personnel decisions, which significantly livened up the game. Wisła returned to their highly attacking style of play. Bregu, Rodado, and Duda, who was introduced, attempted to threaten the visiting goalkeeper.
The long-awaited breakthrough
The match became somewhat of a stalemate from the 70th minute onward. The majority of the action was concentrated in the center of the pitch, with both teams occasionally making forays into the opposing penalty areas.
The breakthrough came in the 79th minute. Jaroch joined the attack and delivered an accurate lofted pass to Angel Rodado. The Spaniard had no choice but to head the ball into the net. And so, we opened the scoring!
Miedź's players attempted to close the gap for the final ten minutes of regulation time, but their efforts were unsuccessful. Wisła skillfully positioned themselves defensively, looking for quick transitions into attack. Moments after the game entered stoppage time, Wisła struck the finishing blow. On one of the counterattacks, the ball once again found its way to our number 9. Rodado kept his composure and with a precise shot, made it 2-0!
