History of league statistics

The Warsaw weekly "Stadjon" was the first to introduce league top scorer statistics. S. Mielech, who regularly contributed to the magazine's football section, played a significant role. The rankings began to be published at the beginning of the league season. After a few years, however, "Stadjon" discontinued this form of statistics, and other sports publications were reluctant to continue this tradition.

For example, "Przegląd Sportowy" published scorer statistics only occasionally – usually at the end of the season and not always consistently.

After World War II, statistics of top scorers began appearing regularly in the press, albeit briefly. During the Stalinist era, they were abandoned, only to be reinstated after the political thaw in the second half of the 1950s. Since then, rankings of the league's best snipers have become a permanent fixture in newspapers, not just sports ones. The title of top scorer has become a prestigious and valued distinction.

Wisła Kraków among the best

Wisła Kraków players are among the most awarded in history. By 2018, they had won a total of 20 top scorer titles , clearly outpacing players from other clubs. The first top scorer in the Polish league was Wisła Kraków's Henryk Reyman , who set a record that remains unbeaten to this day – 37 goals scored in a single season.

This demonstrates the high effectiveness and class of the strikers who play with the white star, as well as Wisła's attacking style of play, which has always been particularly valued at Wawel Castle. Virtually every generation of Wisła players has boasted an outstanding striker. Importantly, many top scorer titles were also won in seasons when Wisła were not among the competition's favorites or finished further down the table. These were usually also Polish national team players.
