#WISTYC: False start at R22. Wisła - GKS Tychy 0:1
The 21st round of the FORTUNA 1 League was a failure for Wisła Kraków, who lost 1-0 to GKS Tychy at the R22. The only goal came in the 20th minute after a shot by Julius Ertlthaler.
Both teams were determined to get into the match with intensity from the outset, as evidenced by the number of fouls called by the referee. Wisła clearly wanted to control the game and maintain possession in their opponent's half, while the visitors tried to hinder them with solid defense and high-pressing.
The first dangerous attack of the match, however, came from the Tricolore side, who were pushed down relatively low. After a corner for the home side, the visitors skillfully counterattacked, and their promising attack was halted by the White Star players, who were well-positioned to defend. One such daring foray into Raton's goal resulted in a swift response from Wisła, whose players seemed eager to prove they were no worse in this respect than their opponents. Satrustegi covered a large area of the pitch with the ball at his feet, then passed the ball to Goku, who was positioned in the middle. The number 22 player extended the ball to Alfaro, whose cross was blocked by a sliding tackle from the visiting defender. The first 20 minutes saw a relatively steady rhythm. The Kraków team repeatedly attempted to attack, but the Tychy defense, well-organized, prevented them from getting much done.
At that moment—in a situation few expected to be in danger—Wojtuszek, from the center, decided to surprise the home defense with a long pass. Ertlthaler found the high ball and opened the scoring. The VAR system was still checking for a possible offside position, but after a short while, the referee pointed to the center of the pitch.
Wisła's players struggled to quickly regain possession after losing possession. One such interception handed the ball to Miki Villar, who tested the visiting goalkeeper's abilities for the first time in the match. Albert Rude's men continued to push for a goal, but their efforts were consistently unsuccessful. Goku remained very active in attack, repeatedly attempting to break down the GKS defense with through passes. His commitment was exemplified by the yellow card he received for attempting to hasten the opponents' restart.
Ten minutes before the end of the first half, the injured Miki Villar was forced off the pitch, replaced by Dejvi Bregu. The final period before the break was marked by errors on both sides and attempts to trade blows. First, Tychy's players showed a dangerous foray into possession, while Wisła's Rodado Jaroch found his way well into the penalty area after a cross, but his shot was wide. Shortly after, the whistle blew for halftime.
No goals after the break
In the second half, Wisła remained true to their style of play, continuing to play an attacking game while forcing the visitors onto the defensive. The visiting coach undoubtedly prepared his team for this scenario, deploying five players in the defensive line. The home side were clearly motivated to equalize the score as quickly as possible. Alfaro was very active on the wing, frequently delivering crosses to find his teammates near the goal.
The start of the second 45 minutes seemed a bit chaotic. There were plenty of haphazard plays and loose balls. However, Wisła were more comfortable in this game, trying to capitalize on their opponents' mistakes. After a corner kick and some confusion in the penalty area, Goku found the ball again on the edge of the penalty area, but his shot went wide. Bregu, introduced before the break, also showed his strength, constantly looking for opportunities to exchange passes with other players. The next fifteen minutes of play passed in this way.
After an hour of play, the Wisła coach decided to make a change, replacing Sapała with Baena. This undoubtedly offensive rotation in the lineup sparked the game forward. From that point on, Wisła held possession almost entirely until the final whistle. However, the Tychy team continued to defend skillfully, successfully repelling all of the Kraków attacks. Rodado delivered a stunning solo effort, but his efforts were also in vain.
After the 70th minute, the opposing coach wanted to invigorate his players by making a group substitution. Coach Rude reacted wisely, also deciding to bring Sobczak and Szot into the game. Baena undoubtedly stood out at this stage of the game, relentlessly pursuing his efforts to equalize the score.
From the 80th minute on, the visitors practically never left their penalty area. Defending with their entire team, they cleared the ball almost out of their own net countless times. The substituted Szot and Duda, who deserved praise for his performance throughout the match, delivered accurate crosses. However, each time, the cross fell just a few centimeters short of landing on the heads of our strikers. If the Tricolor defenders weren't brilliant, Kikolski was excellent.
The referee added six minutes of added time, but unfortunately, the visitors' goal was still untouchable. The match ended with a dangerous shot from Uryga, who, in the final moments, refused to defend, trying to use his height to score the desired goal. After this move, GKS wisely moved the ball back into Wisła's half, and shortly after, the final whistle blew, ending the match.
