Rudé: The most important thing for us is to compete with him
On Saturday evening, Wisła will play its namesake team from Płock. Before the match against the Oilers, coach Albert Rudé answered questions from journalists.
The team's situation before the match against Wisła Płock:
- Kamil Broda – in individual goalkeeping training;
- Goku - recovering from a broken toe;
- Angel Rodado - started training with the team;
- Jakub Stępak - trains individually;
- Bartosz Talar - is rehabilitating after surgery;
- Anton Chichkan - we are still waiting for the formalities to be concluded.
Dawid Szot and Jesus Alfaro will miss the match due to yellow cards. The club is awaiting a decision on the appeal against Bartosz Jaroch's red card.
"It's true that it's a challenge for us with so many injuries and yellow card suspensions. Now we're realizing how important it is to have a deep squad and that we need everyone on board. We have the resources to solve this problem and we'll choose people who will help us solve these problems," the coach began. When asked if David Junca might be considered, the coach replied: "If Karolina doesn't list someone in her medical report, that's a good sign. In this case, it's also possible she can help us."
Goku, on the other hand, is struggling with an injury, so does this open up a chance for Dawid Olejarka? "Yes, it's possible Olejarka will play an important role. He was absent from the last two matches for the national team due to my decision, but now I can also decide whether he can be included in the squad and fight for his chance," he noted. Angel Rodado has also started training with the team. When can we expect him back in the squad? "With Angel and his type of injury, we have to take it day by day. We're all waiting for him at the club—coaches, teammates—and we hope his help will be available soon."
The team's recent two league defeats have made things much more complicated. Is the team aware of where they are? "Absolutely! We spoke with the team, had a long meeting where we discussed how to resolve this, and there are positive things that have come out of that discussion. Now we have to adapt our plan to solve our problems, because there really is no margin for error anymore," he noted. "Generally, we're at a point where we need to be ready for what awaits us in the near future, which is three away matches. Wisła Płock plays with five defenders. They play very aggressively, pressing high, especially at home. When they have the ball, they attack very quickly. They switch sides and try to cross quickly. This makes them look dangerous. We know these things; we have to counter our opponent's strengths. However, the most important thing for us is to compete with them. I say this because, on the road, competition is something we usually lack. I'm not talking about the tactical aspects, but about this very competition," he continued.
One area the Kraków team needs to work on is their crosses from the wide areas. "I agree that we struggled with that in the last match, conceding two goals. What we can do is work even harder and show the players where they're making mistakes. We focused on improving these points, these details, to prevent things like that," he explained.
Against Motor Lublin, it was Billel Omrani, not Michał Żyro, who came on as a substitute. Why this decision? "The context of the match is important. If we look at previous matches, we made decisions based on what we needed. For example, against Chrobry, Michał came on before Billel. We couldn't use Angel Rodado and Baena then. Against Motor, we had one chance to make a substitution. We assessed what we would need on the pitch and brought Billel on," he explained.
There was also a question about Alvaro Raton, who made an error last week. "He makes great saves in practically every match, preventing goals. It's also true that he makes mistakes like any other player, but in this position, a mistake means conceding a goal. He needs to be more focused on what he's doing because he's closer to the goal. It's Łukasz Załuska's job to help him. It's about being behind him at all times, supporting him. Both us and the entire club," he noted.
Karol Dziedzic is still waiting for his debut for Wisła. What's his situation? "As for Karol, we can consider him for the next match. However, in his case, we're talking about a long-term project. We feel we need to give him more time, not only in terms of physical preparation, but also in technical and tactical matters, to mature as a player. When we sense the moment when he's ready, then he can compete more fiercely for his place in the team," he replied.
Patryk Gogół, who has had knee surgery, is now back to full fitness: "I'm very happy that he's back training with the team. He's a very dynamic player, he has a lot of energy, you can feel it. Now we just need to give him a little more time to be fully ready."
Journalists asked him what he thought the striker hierarchy was, meaning who ranks behind Angel Rodado and Szymon Sobczak. "In each position, we have several players fighting for space. Up front, in terms of the strikers, we have four players fighting for position. In the case of Billel Omrani and Michał Żyro, we assess what the team needs at any given moment. At the moment, we don't have Angel Rodado, but we have several options to be more attacking. We evaluate them every week, in every training session. We also assess what the team needs in a given match based on the movements they make in and around the penalty area. We decide who to field based on that. It will be similar for the match against Wisła Płock," he replied.
