The end of dreams... #WISMIE 0:1
This was supposed to be an important step on the road back to football's elite. However, coach Mariusz Jop's side were eliminated after the playoff match, losing 1-0 at home to Miedź Legnica.
The hosts took the initiative from the opening minutes, quickly posing a threat in front of goal. In the fourth minute, Kacper Duda had a golden opportunity to open the scoring, but instead of passing the ball to the better-positioned Angel Rodado, he opted for a shot that proved too predictable and fell to the well-positioned Jakub Wrąbel. Miedź, focused primarily on defense and slowing the tempo of the game, struggled to create a significant threat to Kamil Broda's goal. It wasn't until the 24th minute that Mateusz Bochnak had his first shot on target from inside the penalty area, but the Wisła goalkeeper handled it without much trouble. Wisła then launched a dangerous attack, with Frederico Duarte firing just wide of the post. In the following minutes, however, Broda had to show his quick reflexes. First, he stopped a powerful shot from Kamil Antonik, and moments later, he brilliantly saved a dangerous header from Kamil Drygas. Wisła continued to attack and narrowly missed a goal in the 35th minute. Kacper Duda opted for a long-range shot, which bounced off the inside of the crossbar but ultimately fell short of the goal line. Although Kraków dominated possession and chances, the visitors managed to surprise them with one effective shot. Michael Kostka capitalized on a moment of defensive inattention by Wisła and unleashed a powerful long-range shot that surprised Broda and gave Miedź the lead. The hosts attempted to respond before the break, but lacked substance and precision in their finishing.
The second half was full of drama and missed opportunities.
After the break, Wisła took to the pitch with the clear intention of making up for lost time, but a dramatic event occurred right at the start. Rafał Mikulec suffered a serious injury and had to be taken off the pitch by ambulance, significantly extending the break and disrupting the pace of the match. After the restart, the Kraków team struggled to regain their rhythm, but they held out hope of turning the tide. Wisła never gave up and created further chances. Alfaro hit the crossbar, Rodado hit the post, and several other shots missed the target by mere centimeters. Despite numerous attempts by the home team, Miedź's goalkeeper was in excellent form that day and put in an inspired save, stopping one dangerous shot after another. Miedź, on the other hand, played very consistently, effectively stopping the home team, stopping attacks at key moments, and defending their one-goal lead with great determination. In stoppage time, fate again laughed in the home team's face. After Jesus Alfaro's shot, which deflected badly, the ball bounced off the crossbar again, and moments later, Łukasz Zwoliński hit the post. Despite a concerted attack and several excellent chances, Wisła failed to break Jakub Wrąbel's lead, while Miedź, defending with all their might, secured a valuable victory until the final whistle.
