It's time to start! The Central Junior League is starting!
The wait is over! After a summer break and several weeks of preparation, Wisła Kraków's U-19 and U-17 teams are resuming their Central Junior League campaign. This year's season promises to be exciting, and the first round should already deliver plenty of excitement. The opening match will see both Wisła Kraków teams face Jagiellonia Białystok. The U-17s will take to the pitch on Friday, and on Saturday, the White Star's oldest team, playing at the CLJ level, will battle for their first points.
CLJ U-17: Jagiellonia Białystok - Wisła Kraków, Friday, August 9, 12:00
The U-17 team will be competing in their first league match of the 2024/2025 season on Friday. Coach Patryk Jałocha's side will face a long trip to Białystok to face Jagiellonia. Both teams finished near the top of the table last season and were neighbors in the league table.
Wisła finished fourth with 58 points, with the Podlasie team just one point behind. The White Star will have a chance to avenge last year's defeat in Białystok, where Jaga won 4-2, with Maciej Szmydt and Maksym Tsymbaliuk scoring for Wisła.
Patryk Jałocha's team underwent significant changes during the summer break. A significant portion of the squad joined the U-19 team, while the U-17 squad was joined by players who previously played for the U-15 and U-16 teams in Kraków. Wisła has played several friendlies, and their recent performances, in particular, are encouraging for the start of the league campaign.
The opening match in Białystok is scheduled to begin at 12:00 noon.
CLJ U-19: Wisła Kraków - Jagiellonia Białystok, Saturday, August 10, 12:00
On Saturday, Wisła's oldest team, competing in the Central Junior League, will take to the pitch. The U-19 team will host their peers from Białystok in Myślenice and will be looking to kick off the league season with a bang.
Coach Karol Nędza's players played several friendly matches during the preseason. The main test before the league season began was their participation in the Ernest Pohl Memorial in Zabrze, where Wisła finished third.
Compared to last season, Karol Nędza's team has seen a significant number of changes. Marcin Górkiewicz, Yehor Khromykh, and Radosław Skała, among others, have retired from junior football and joined the White Star's second team. Meanwhile, Eryk Daczewski, Szymon Urbanik, Szymon Kawała, and Łukasz Staniów, who have been key players in the U-17 team in previous years, have joined the U-19 squad.
Wisła Kraków faces a difficult challenge in the first round. Jagiellonia finished last season in sixth place with 47 points. Last year's clash between the two teams in Myślenice ended in a 2-2 draw.
The referee's first whistle in Saturday's match will sound in Myślenice at 12:00.
