Beat Your Neighbor: #SPAWIS Preview

Tonight – August 8th at 8:30 PM – Wisła Kraków will face Spartak Trnava away. The third qualifying round match for the UEFA Conference League will take place at the Štadión Antona Malatinského, with over a thousand visiting fans cheering on the Kraków team from the stands.

After a painful football lesson against Rapid Vienna and their subsequent elimination from the Europa League, Wisła has a chance to rehabilitate itself in the lower-tier Conference League. However, this competition is no less prestigious and still offers a great opportunity to showcase its skills in European club football. According to the draw, the White Star will first test itself against Spartak Trnava. The Slovak side has been a challenge for other Polish teams in recent years, but has never faced Wisła in an official match.

Looking at the league standings, both teams have started their seasons somewhat below expectations. Spartak has drawn their first two matches without scoring a single goal. The Trnava club sits sixth in the table, four points behind leaders Slovan Bratislava, who have so far managed to balance domestic competition with Champions League qualifying admirably. Meanwhile, Wisła, after the postponed match against ŁKS Łódź and unsuccessful matches against Polonia Warszawa and Znicz Pruszków, sits far back in the table, still working to find their rhythm and consistently pick up points.

The future winner of this two-legged tie has already identified their potential opponents. The Polish-Slovak pair managed to avoid the strongest team in the draw, Chelsea London, but that doesn't mean the winner will have an easy time advancing to the next stage. To qualify for the league stage, they'll have to face one of the Molde FK/Cercle Brugge KSV pairings – so there's something to play for as they experience another unforgettable evening of European competition!
