Blind Football: One Step From History!
On September 7, the final round of the domestic PGF Blind Football League 2024 competition will be played in Krakow, and the players of our section can go down in history as the first national champions in this discipline.
This Saturday, Wisła BF players and staff will have a great opportunity to become the first, historic Polish champion in blind football, a discipline that has been gradually developed in Krakow since 2008.
We have several international successes under our belt, winning the Polish Cup four times. As members of the national team, we know what it means to win medals in the Polish national team, but the title of league champion is something we haven't yet had the chance to taste. We have three matches ahead of us that could be the icing on the cake of this hard-won history. However, the icing on the cake won't just appear," says Martin Jung.
The White Star BF will face Niezłomni Zabrze BF, Rekord Bielsko-Biała BF, and the potentially most dangerous Warta Poznań BF at Wawel Castle. The Poznań team is two points off the top spot, but they only have two matches left in the final round – against our section and Śląsk BF, who still have a chance at the championship.
We don't look at the table; we're footballers, not mathematicians. Of course, we're aware of our position and that of our rivals, but we won't gain points by counting. Everything depends on us, and I can't imagine us thwarting everything we've achieved so far. We respect our rival teams and are preparing for challenging matches. However, we know our capabilities and skills, so we'll go into every match on Saturday with our heads held high," emphasizes captain Marcin Ryszka.
August was the month when players returned to club training, and some also had the opportunity to attend a multi-day national team training camp. This time was used for group and individual work, due to injuries sustained by some.
"We've had to slightly modify some training elements for the players' well-being. It's impossible to immediately return to peak performance after a break, especially if some players are struggling with injuries. The boys have three league matches to play, which are coming to an end, but the season is still ongoing. We have the Polish Cup and two international tournaments ahead of us; we have to remember that. I'm confident that despite a few setbacks, they'll cope on the pitch and do what they have to do to bring joy to all of us," adds Marek Żychowski, physiotherapist.
The final round of the PGF Blind Football League will be played at the MOS Kraków Zachód stadium at Plac Na Groblach 23. This will be the final opening the second part of the season for Wisła BF, which will travel to Prague at the end of September, compete for another Polish Cup on October 12-13, and conclude the club season that same month in Leipzig.
However, future plans aren't the most important thing right now, as Saturday's round and your support for our team are what matters. We invite everyone to support our section during the grand finale, which could go down in history as a golden age for the entire club.
