From the Wisła stadium to the freedom of the homeland
The exciting match against GKS Tychy is over! Before the White Star players take to the pitch again the pitch to fight for league points, we have the anniversary of an extremely important event coming up. On August 6th Together we will celebrate the 111th anniversary of the march of the First Cadre Company from the Wisła Sports Park to Oleandry!
In 1914, Wisła opened its historic first stadium. The pitch was built on the premises former architecture exhibition, in the place now partly occupied by the Library building Jagiellońska. The opening of their own stadium was the culmination of long efforts by the Society's activists. Sports and was an important step in the development of the club.
However, Wisła's time on the pitch was short-lived. At the end of July 1914, an assassination attempt on the Archduke Franz Ferdinand led to the outbreak of war, in which the occupying powers found themselves on opposite sides of the front. It was a situation in which the Poles saw a chance to regain independence, for which they had been preparing for a long time. In Krakow, mobilization was members of the paramilitary organizations Strzelec and Polish Rifle Teams to form the nucleus Polish Army. The mobilization site was the Wisła Sports Park in Oleandry. Wisła From the very beginning of its activity, Kraków was patriotic and pro-independence. For the founder of the club, Tadeusz Łopuszański, sport and football were a means of building national bonds and strengthening one's own identity during the partition period. It is therefore no wonder that the Wisła family joined in these activities. "Encouraged by the same thought, we are giving away our locker room, our pitch in Oleandry, which was organized in 1914 by the Polish Legions, to which also reported what we had the most expensive one, i.e. most of our team" - it was proudly emphasized years later.
The First Cadre Company, formed in the Wisła Sports Park in Oleandry, set off for the battle trail on the morning of August 6, 1914. This is how the legionary epic began, which culminated in was Poland regaining its independence.
Together, we will commemorate those events! White Star fans from the "Wiślaccy Patrioti" group invite you on August 6, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. We will meet at the site of the historic Park Wisła Sports Center in Oleandry, on Ingardena Street. From there we will go to the monument of Henryk Reyman and the new Wisła stadium. Special speeches and a wreath-laying ceremony are planned. a group souvenir photo and a tour of the Wisła stadium. Let's show that we remember that Poland's path to independence began at the Wisła stadium!
