Rudé: We have to learn from this lesson
The 30th round of the FORTUNA 1 League brings Wisła Kraków another match. This time, they face Podbeskidzie Bielsko-Biała at home. As part of the pregame preview, coach Albert Rudé met with journalists at a press conference.
Medical report:
- Goku and Bartosz Talar are in rehabilitation.
"It's true that the match before the semifinal against Piast Gliwice was one in which we didn't perform well. That's why we can't repeat it; we have to learn from it. That's what we're working on now, pushing the players to stay fully focused," the coach began.
The R22 team is starting their final matches poorly. How can we ensure that our players perform the way the coaching staff expects them from the start? "Generally speaking, one of the formulas I know for reacting to these situations is to believe in our players. That's the foundation. The second thing is to push them, to demand from them every day. And finally, to make decisions when they're needed. With this approach, we believe our run will be good until the end of the season," he said.
In Rzeszów, Wisła Kraków's wings weren't the driving force behind their performance. What accounts for their poorer form? "I explained some time ago that we train people, and they have good and bad moments from time to time. What we can do in these latter moments is help them, support them, and give them a chance. However, if we see that it's not working, we make decisions. In the last match, our wingers didn't have a good day, so we made the right decision at halftime. It's simple," he replied.
Szymon Sobczak also missed the #RESWIS match, and journalists asked about his absence: "Minutes management is one of the reasons, but there are also tactical reasons. As for the last match, it was my decision." And will Alan Uryga, returning from a suspension for yellow cards, lead the team out as captain again? "I can't say at this point what the lineup will be, but I can say that Alan Uryga will play," he revealed.
Kamil Broda was not included in the medical report. Does this mean he could be considered for Friday's match? "Broda has had two full training sessions with the team. I think he needs another three or four full days with the team to be ready to compete," the coach announced.
Podbeskidzie are another team from the bottom of the table. How does the White Star coach expect their opponents to play? "It's clear that if you're playing against an opponent in this situation, they'll give it their all. They'll fight for every ball. Against opponents like that, if you score in the 91st minute, they can come back and score in the 92nd, so we have to demand a lot of determination and concentration from ourselves in this match. However, this isn't the time to talk about it again. It's time to show it out there – on the pitch," he emphasized.
The White Star is performing better in the Polish Cup than in the league. What can be done to ensure they perform equally well in the first division? "I pay close attention to the fact that if you win, even in the Polish Cup, you bring a lot of joy to the fans, to this community. If you don't win, if there are no results, there will be no joy, no satisfaction. I can assure you that we want to change this, we want to change this situation, we want to bring joy, we want to always play well, we want to always win. It's like our obsession, and together with my staff, we work hard to achieve it. I can guarantee that we will always be committed to what we do. We are confident in it. We will always strive to move forward to deliver excitement," he said.
The R22 team places more emphasis on positional attacking than counterattacking. When asked if they're working on this aspect, the coach replied: "We're working on every aspect of the game that the match demands of us. In each of them, we usually have around 60-70 percent possession. We play in the opponent's half, and by playing like that, we have fewer opportunities for counterattacks. That's our reality. On the other hand, we have around 30-40 tackles in the opponent's half, and this playing style helps us get closer to the opponent's goal when we win the ball back. This leads to fewer opportunities for counterattacks."
At the press conference, it was suggested that Jakub Krzyżanowski could play on the wing, providing the team with a lot of attacking power. Does the coach see him playing in that position on the pitch? "That's a good question! He gives us a lot offensively, although he struggles defensively. He's still a young player who needs to improve in that area. However, this is an interesting option. Especially if we want to close down a side with a full-back and another on the wing. We can use that option. Generally speaking, though, if I have typical wingers at my disposal, I prefer them because they have more tools at their disposal to play offensively," concluded coach Albert Rudé.
