Blind football history is being written in Krakow
On April 27 and 28, the first round of the PGF Blind Football League - the Polish blind football league - will be played at the MOS Kraków Zachód facility at Plac Na Groblach 23, in which Wisła Blind Football Kraków will fight for gold.
After several years of hard work at the club and national team levels, Poland's national blind football league will kick off next weekend in Krakow. This is a remarkable event not only on a national scale but also on a European scale, as Poland will become the fifth country on the continent to host a national competition.
"We've been dreaming of this moment since 2008, ever since the first rattling footballs were brought to Poland. We're thrilled that the effort put into developing the sport in our country is paying off. Of course, this is the first season, and although we've already accomplished a lot, we'll undoubtedly all be learning completely new things during it, but we're incredibly excited about the lessons ahead," said Piotr Niesyczyński, league project manager.
Five teams will participate in the competition, including Wisła Blind Football Kraków, which will compete for league gold against teams from Wrocław, Poznań, Bielsko-Biała, and Zabrze. Each team will play eight matches throughout the season, divided into three rounds.
"This is an incredibly exciting moment for all of us. Until now, our team has faced other teams in the Polish Cup. However, the league is a completely different kind of challenge, which will be a real test. I would be lying if I said we weren't aiming for the championship title; however, it won't just happen. We have three important weekends ahead of us, interspersed with other events. We'll have to show our strength, perseverance, and determination to celebrate a job well done in September," noted Dominik Foryś, Wisła BF coach.
The next round will open the season, which for Wisła's blind football section will begin with challenging matches against teams from Poznań and Wrocław. Their results could indicate right from the start who will be fighting for what.
The Wisła Blind Football Kraków schedule for the upcoming weekend is as follows:
Saturday (27/04):
