Mikulec: We heard the fans cheering
Sunday's match against Wisła Kraków ended on a high note. Wiktor Biedrzycki scored a goal to defeat Górnik Łęczna 1-0, sending a clear signal to their opponents that they are still in contention for promotion to the Ekstraklasa. After the match, we spoke with Rafał Mikulec, defender of the team from Wawel.
Assessing Sunday's match against Górnik Łęczna, Rafał Mikulec appreciated the win, but pointed out Wisła's flaws. "We're very happy with the win. However, I think we lacked a bit of patience in the first half; we could have played a bit faster. We had our chances, but nothing went in," Mikulec began, adding: "We were nervous in the second half, and then the goalkeeper got a red card. After that, we told ourselves we had to push through this match somehow. I think we were better than our opponent after that red card."
Wisła Kraków had to cope with being underweight for a while, as White Star goalkeeper Patryk Letkiewicz was shown a red card. How did the team react to the situation? "We support Patryk. We have to remember that this kind of situation can happen to any of us. It happened to him today, but we're moving on. Another goalkeeper is now joining the lineup, but of course we'll support Patryk until the end," the defender emphasized.
Despite playing with 10 players, the Kraków team held their own against their opponents, and even played more decisive football in many actions. "The red card spurred us on," admitted Mikulec, also commenting on what was happening in the stands: "The atmosphere in the stands is also worth mentioning, because the fans were incredibly supportive. We're incredibly grateful to them. We could hear the fans' cheering, and after every good save we made, they kept the match going. We can only thank them for coming to our matches in such large numbers and cheering us on until the end," he commented.
Wisła Kraków's play was evident in their desire to win and their quick reaction to events on the pitch. "We knew that if we were aggressive, it wouldn't be easy for them to play against us. They would lose possession, and I think that's how it looked, thanks to our high-pressing game," continued the Wisła player.
Wisła Kraków now faces a match against Miedź Legnica. How does the Wisła defender view this encounter? "We're focused on every match that lies ahead. Our attention is solely on Miedź, and we'll see what happens next. Miedź is going through a difficult time right now, and we're not. We approach this opponent with respect; we know it won't be an easy match, but each of us will go there with one mindset: the desire to win and collect three points," he concluded.
