A page from the Wisła calendar: the anniversary of Ignacy Moeser's birth
142 years ago - on February 28, 1882 - Ignacy Moeser was born, an activist of Wisła Kraków during the partitions, member of the TS Wisła Audit Committee.
Ignacy Moeser was born to Józef and Kamila (née Grochmann) in Kołomyja in 1882. Moeser became a pivotal figure not only in the history of the Wisła Sports Society, but also in the social life of Kraków. Moeser lived in Kraków from an early age, attending primary school and the First Real School. He wasn't a brilliant student, but his determination and skills quickly made their mark. Despite receiving satisfactory grades at school, he passed the professional accounting exam, preparing for it himself. It was in the field of finance that Ignacy Moeser achieved his first professional successes. His career intertwined with the history of the Wisła Sports Society at the turn of 1910 and 1911. Moeser not only served as a member of the TS Wisła audit committee but also played a significant role in building relationships with Czech clubs, working at the Kraków branch of the Czech financial institution Živnostenská banka. His knowledge of Czech and experience in banking undoubtedly made a valuable contribution to the development of club contacts. Moeser's involvement in patriotic activities should also not be forgotten. His election as treasurer of the Polish Football Association—the first Polish football association independent of the occupying powers—and his involvement in various social initiatives underscore his dedication to the national cause. Moeser was a member of the Rifle Brotherhood and president of the Industrial Bank. In 1939, he served as treasurer of the committee that used public donations to purchase an ambulance plane for the Polish Army. After retiring from banking, Ignacy Moeser remained active in the community and continued working even into his old age, when he was associated with the Wawel Confectionery Plant. Ignacy Moeser died on March 15, 1968, in Krakow and rests at Rakowicki Cemetery. Today, on the occasion of his birthday, it is worth remembering this extraordinary figure who combined a passion for sport, social involvement, and patriotism. Ignacy Moeser remains an important point in the history of Wisła Kraków and the city of Kraków.
