Chichkan: We are a team, we achieve successes together, we make mistakes together
Anton Chichkan made his Wisła debut between the posts. The Wawel-based team secured an important set of points ahead of the Polish Cup final.
"Everything was fine. I'm very happy to finally make my debut with Wisła. I worked hard for it. I'm also happy we won, because the three points were very important to us. Obviously, we're fighting for promotion to the Ekstraklasa, so every victory counts," the goalkeeper began.
His debut, however, wasn't easy due to the formal difficulties the player had to overcome. "It wasn't all up to me. To this day, I honestly don't know why it all took so long, why it happened to me. I'm just a footballer, I want to show my skills on the pitch, train hard, and I couldn't play. It's strange because I've spoken to several Belarusian players who play in the Ekstraklasa, and they didn't have the same problems as me. The most important thing is that it's all behind me now and I can focus on playing. My debut is behind me, and I hope that now I'll have the opportunity to play regularly," he said.
The Belarusian goalkeeper failed to keep a clean sheet in the #WISPOD clash. What did the conceding goal look like from his perspective after Eneko's unfortunate move? "We can't just look at it as Eneko's mistake. It was a team mistake. We're a team, we achieve success together, we make mistakes together. If someone stumbles, everyone has to support them, because this is football and these things happen. The most important thing is how you react to something like that, and we showed after conceding that we're still together, that we're going for the win, and ultimately, we got the three points," he noted.
When asked about communicating with the defensive line, he replied: "I understand a lot of Polish, I even speak a little. I'm constantly learning the language, so it's getting better. I watch films and try to read books to improve my Polish. I think it's very necessary, because if you're in Poland, playing football here, you have to learn the language over time. This is obvious, even with a dressing room as international as ours. The coach and I speak English, of course, but I'll be learning Polish consistently."
The next match is against Pogoń Szczecin in the FORTUNA Polish Cup final. Who will we see in goal? "I have no idea at this point. The coach will make the decision. Each of us wants to be in the starting eleven for this match, but we have a large squad and we'll have to choose. It's a really big match. From what I understand, it's one of the most important of the season in Poland. It's no surprise that each of us wants to be involved. We'll see what the coach decides. I don't know if I'll play, but I know that if the coach wants to bet on me, I'll be ready. I already have a few trophies under my belt; it would be good to add another one. I'll do everything to play, but the coach will decide," he concluded.
