Blind Football: One point away from the dream

On September 13-14, Krakow will once again host blind footballers from across Poland, who will compete for valuable points during the final round of the 2025 PGF Blind Football League, which could shake up the league table at the drop of a hat. Coach Foryś's team needs just one point to defend their historic gold medal.

This weekend at the MOS Kraków Zachód stadium at Plac Na Groblach 23 will once again be filled with the sounds of rattling balls, shouts of "voy!", and the loud commands of the navigators. All this in connection with the league final, where Wisła BF will defend the championship title they won in 2024.

"Last season was absolutely incredible for our team. We became historic national champions, and a few weeks later, we won the Polish Cup. This season is different, definitely more difficult, but we're still in the game and top of the league table. We're one point away from lifting the PGF Blind Football League trophy again. The task doesn't seem complicated, but reality could prove much more difficult. No matter what, we still control our own fate." – says Kacper Domagała, the midfielder who wears number 11.

The aforementioned difficulties stem from personnel issues that have intensified as the season progressed. Just days before the final, the coaching staff has only five field players at their disposal. Goalkeepers Krzysztof Bednarkiewicz and Krzysztof Spytkowski have torn Achilles tendons and a broken finger, respectively. Paweł Zinkow is awaiting ACL surgery, as is Michał Woszczak, who will soon undergo foot surgery. Marcin Ryszka and Gabriel Olech's participation is also in question.

"This is our current reality. The situation is difficult, but throughout the season we did everything we could to defend the title, even with such significant personnel shortages. We've built a significant lead, and now we need to seal it, no matter the circumstances. We have two home games and we'll want to win them." – says Marcin Pajor, a defender playing with number 8.

On Saturday at 9:30 a.m., our team will host Warta Poznań BF, a team that no longer has a chance at gold, but is still in contention for bronze. Second place in the league guarantees seeding in the Polish Cup draw, which, given the nature of this competition, could be significant. Although Dominik Foryś's team won the first leg 5-0, the upcoming clash will undoubtedly be challenging, as the result could significantly impact the top of the table for both teams.

On Sunday at 11:00 AM, the Kraków-Warsaw clash will feature the White Star BF taking on the debutants from ARTS Warszawa BF. The first leg ended in a comfortable 3-0 victory, with a strong performance from the opposing goalkeeper preventing the score from being more impressive. Theoretically, the coaching staff doesn't anticipate any major upsets – however, football has its own rules, and anyone, regardless of skill or experience, can beat anyone.

"As Kacper and Marcin mentioned, we have the last step ahead of us, which has become very complicated, but it is still up to us to take it, especially since we can feel the breath of the Wrocław team behind us, which also still has a chance to triumph in the competition." – adds Rafał Kurlit, assistant coach.

Wisła BF currently has 16 points with two games remaining. Śląsk Wrocław BF, chasing our section, is the only team in contention for the gold medal – they have 8 points, but in the final round they will play three matches against teams from Warsaw, Bielsko, and Poznań.

"We're footballers, not mathematicians. We don't want to play around with scenarios, we just want to run out onto the pitch and do our thing, so we don't have to worry about our opponent. Any points we earn will seal the deal, and we—regardless of any difficulties—will want to get all the points for ourselves and our fans." – concludes Mateusz Krzyszkowski, the midfielder who plays with number 92.

We are keeping our fingers crossed for Wisła Blind Football Kraków and we encourage everyone to expand their fan plans this weekend by visiting Plac Na Groblach 23 to support and – as we deeply believe – celebrate the defense of the championship!
