Blind Football: Wisła will play in Prague
The 11th edition of the Central European Cities Cup will be held in Prague on September 28-29. Wisła Kraków BF will also participate in the international competition.
This is the first trip to an international tournament this year for Dominik Foryś's players. It will be a great break from their home turf, and an exciting challenge ahead of the upcoming Polish Cup.
"We're thrilled that after such a long break, we'll be able to play against teams from abroad. The Czech Republic has been very close to us since the beginning of our section, and we hope to win something there. However, the task won't be easy due to the teams participating in the competition, as well as our own minor issues. However, we'll do everything we can to put on our best performance," said Kacper Domagała.
Wisła BF will travel to the Czech capital with just one reserve player. Martin Jung, the White Star BF's top scorer, was unable to travel for personal reasons. Furthermore, Mateusz Krzyszkowski and Gabriel Olech are returning after extended injury layoffs. It's worth noting that new goalkeeper Krzysztof Spytkowski could make his debut between the posts.
"We are aware of our situation, but we won't use personnel issues as an excuse. We will do everything we can to achieve a good result. The chance to compete against potentially tougher opponents is a great way to prepare for our next domestic challenge," added Paweł Zinkow.
The tournament in Prague will host nine clubs from seven countries, playing under Swiss system rules. Each team will play four matches, competing for points in one large table. The teams finishing 1st-4th after the group stage will compete in the semifinals, followed by matches for places 1st-3rd. The remaining teams will play for lower positions.
"The Swiss system, with matches lasting 20 minutes without a break, and penalty shootouts in matches that end in draws – we've never had the opportunity to compete under these rules. We're feeling a certain amount of stress and a slight fascination with the idea of our southern neighbors. The truth is, however, that the rules will be the same for everyone, and the course of the game will depend on us. We're hoping for good fun, a good dose of experience, and a good result," added Marcin Ryszka.
The draw for Wisła BF's opponents took place this week. In the group stage, Wisła will compete for points against teams from Marburg and Ingolstadt (Germany), San Remo (Italy) and Keravnos (Greece).
