Coaching duo: #ZNIWIS
Following the #ZNIWIS match, coaches Kazimierz Moskal and Grzegorz Szoka met with journalists. A transcript of the press conference can be found below.
Kazimierz Moskal - Wisla Krakow
"Well... I'm trying to stay calm so as not to use any harsh words, but one thing that comes to mind is responsibility. If you want to play at a certain level, if you want to fight for points, you have to be responsible. I understand that you can make mistakes. You might not be able to do something, but that doesn't absolve you from thinking rationally on the pitch and making decisions. If you get two senseless yellow cards and weaken the team, that's simply unacceptable to me. We had the match under control for long stretches, we scored a goal, and although we didn't start the second half the way we wanted, as the second half progressed, it also looked decent. Until I received the second yellow card. For me, it's absolutely unacceptable. I can't understand it, and I don't know, maybe we should start training with ten players, because this is the fifth consecutive match in the league we've been playing with ten players. This is something unbelievable for me. I don't want to get worked up, I don't want to comment further. Congratulations to Znicz. Of course, a victory, because after that yellow card, they were determined to turn the tide of the match around, and they succeeded, but our behavior is reprehensible. What happened is inexplicable," he said.
When asked if Tamas Kiss could be punished for his behavior, the coach replied: "This isn't a comedy, this is a crime! We need to be clear about this. We need to calm down first, because I think that under the influence of these negative emotions, we might say or do one thing too many. I think that when we calm down, we'll think about it, but that doesn't change the fact that, as I said, this is unacceptable, unacceptable to me."
The Krakow team could have closed the match out earlier by capitalizing on the opportunities they created. "Probably. And as I said, we didn't start the second half at our best, but then Patryk Gogół's three shots could have led to another goal. Sure, we should have done better in some situations, but that doesn't change the fact that the red card was the key moment. And I have no doubt about that," he emphasized. "As I said, I think we didn't start the half at our best, but then, as the game progressed, we created some chances. There were shots, and there were moments when we still controlled what was happening on the pitch. I have a grip—of course I have a grip—but once again I have to go back to the fact that the whole situation changed after the red card. And no matter what we were looking for, what ideologies we were trying to tie the knots together, it all comes down to this moment," he concluded.
Grzegorz Szoka: This card definitely changed the face of the match
"We didn't start the match well. We had trouble with Wisła's pressure during our opening moments. We gave the ball away quickly. Wisła forced us into a low defense in the first half. We had trouble launching counterattacks. As the match wore on, we had a few moments where we held onto the ball. We managed to get a shot on target, like Wiktor Nowak did in the first half. And we weren't happy. We talked in the locker room that despite everything, we were losing 0-1. We can't go for a hurrah now, because this match could change in the 70th or 80th minute, but we started the second half very well. Radek Majewski's strike, Krystian Tabara's strike. A few nice outings after some combination play in a quick attack. It seemed we were heading in the right direction. As everyone saw here, that yellow card definitely changed the complexion of the match, but it must also be said that not every team can equalize and win at such a moment. "So, a big round of applause for the players who were on the pitch when that 2-1 goal was disallowed after VAR, which could have a very emotional impact. It might be difficult to get back on track and go for that goal. Wisła also had a moment to reorganize, but we went for it, we were going for the win. I also felt from the bench that we had to make offensive changes, that we couldn't be satisfied with that point. That's why we brought in a second striker, Radek Majewski as the number 10. It paid off, and I'm very happy and congratulate the entire team on this victory," concluded Znicz's coach.
