Świercz: We knew it was our final
Przemysław Świercz, captain of Wisła Kraków Amp Futbol, shared his emotions after winning the Champions League title. He also spoke about the team's strength and plans for the future. The Amp Futbol players aren't stopping at success – the team now wants to prove its dominance in Poland.
Recounting the emotions surrounding the final, Świercz emphasized the calm and focus that permeated the team. "Before the match, there was maximum concentration combined with optimal calm. I had a feeling this would be our final, that no matter what happened, we would win. When I scored to make it 1-0, it set the game in my mind. It was a special moment for me because I don't score very often, and scoring in the final gave me even more energy," Świercz admitted.
The Wisła captain was most pleased with the team's reaction after their opponents equalized at 1-1. "Nobody lowered their heads. We immediately went forward and responded almost immediately, scoring a goal to make it 2-1. This shows how strong our team is and how difficult we are to beat." After the final whistle, everyone could finally revel in the joy: "There was an explosion of happiness, although for a moment there was surprise that it was over, that we could celebrate."
This was Przemysław Świercz's third final, which, as he himself admits, had a huge impact on his preparations for the match. "The experience definitely helped. I knew how to prepare mentally and physically. We have several players in the team, like Igor Woźniak and Krystian Kapłon, who also played in the finals, which strengthened us. After the defeat in Kraków, we knew we had to win this time," he added.
The tournament was incredibly successful for Wisła, and their dominance on the European stage was confirmed by over 20 goals scored. Świercz, however, emphasizes that each match was crucial. "To reach the semifinals, we had to win our group matches, so you can't underestimate any opponent," he said. A particularly important moment was the first match against Sahinbey, a team from Turkey. "It was a rematch of the previous final. The win gave us a huge boost of confidence, but each subsequent match was equally crucial – for the victory to be meaningful, we had to continue our winning streak," explained the captain.
Przemysław Świercz is a motivational speaker, and his experience in this field influences the entire team: "I think my knowledge of psychology, which I apply to myself and the team, is more helpful. Of course, it's easier for me to say something motivating before a match, but we have many leaders who can pull the team together. It's important that we all know how to cope with emotions and stress, and build relationships. This definitely translates into results on the pitch," Świercz explained.
An equally important moment in recent weeks was the return to the stadium on Reymonta Street during the Wisła Kraków vs. Odra Opole match, when the Wisła amputee football team took the field and the White Star anthem rang out from the stands. "It was incredible! A surprise kept secret until the last minute. When we entered the stands, surrounded by exceptional players, and then heard the Wisła anthem, it was something indescribable. I don't think I could have imagined a better reward for our success," he admitted proudly.
Świercz, like many Amp Futbol players, combines sport with professional work, which requires many sacrifices. "It's true, most of us combine playing with other professional commitments, which isn't easy. For example, I returned from a tournament and two days later had to leave for another league match. My daughters were upset about this, but I try to explain to them that it's worth having a passion and pursuing it. Sometimes it's difficult because there's work on top of it, but I believe it's worth sacrificing yourself for moments like our Champions League success," explains the captain.
Despite their great success in Europe, the team has no intention of resting on their laurels. Przemysław Świercz clearly sets his goals for the future: "The goal now is to win the Polish Championship and return to the Champions League to fight for another trophy. We've reached the top, and now our task is to stay there."
