Rudé before #WISMOT: We have a difficult match ahead of us against a good opponent
Two days after the Polish Cup match, coach Albert Rudé met with journalists ahead of another match, this time a league match against Motor Lublin.
Current health situation before the match against Motor Lublin:
- Kamil Broda has increased loads to bring him back to full fitness;
- Angel Rodado - undergoes rehabilitation and additionally participates in individual training;
- Jakub Stępak - is scheduled to be included in training on Monday;
- Patryk Gogół - trains individually and has increased loads;
- Bartosz Talar - is rehabilitating after surgery;
- Anton Chichkan - we are still waiting for the formalities to be concluded.
"Many top-level coaches face a similar challenge because we're not managing robots to press a button, but people. Therefore, the first thing we need to do is raise the awareness of every single player through briefings. The second important thing is to maintain the expectations placed on the players. And finally, make important decisions when necessary. We will do all of this," he began.
Wisła Kraków has little time to recover after their clash with Piast. Will they be in shape in time for Sunday? "It's true that our opponents have had more days to prepare for this match physically and emotionally, but one of our core values is that there are no excuses. We have one more day to prepare the players physically and mentally, and we will try to use this time as best as possible to be ready for the next match," he said.
After the Kraków team advanced to the Polish Cup final, President Jarosław Królewski firmly stated that the absence of Kraków fans meant the match was forfeited to Pogoń. How does the coach approach this matter? "I don't want to make any judgments at this point, as it's a long way off, and my attention, my energy, is focused on the next important match at home," he replied.
Joseph Colley has been in good form recently, and journalists asked about him. How did the coach reach him? "Players have different moments in their performance depending on the stage of the season. However, I agree that Joseph is currently at a top level, top level in terms of his quality. We need to help him maintain that level, but it's also crucial that the players competing with him for his position are ready when Joseph has a weaker moment," he analyzed. Goku recently had a weaker match. The Wisła midfielder's attitude also became the subject of a question: "This is a good question because we need to distinguish between a player not competing well and one who's simply having a bad day. Goku tried to follow the game plan exactly in the match against Piast, but every time he tried to complete the tasks, he was wrong. We gave him some time to get back into good shape, but he wasn't able to, so we made a change. What's important about our management style is that if we see a player not competing, we change him. However, if we see that he's trying but not succeeding, we have to stand behind him and wait for him to return to play. Of course, if such a player's level doesn't improve, we have to make good decisions for the team."
How does the Spanish coach expect Motor to play? "In Motor's case, I have to say they know and understand their style of play very well, and I don't think they'll change it. They play in a 4-3-3 formation, pressing intensely high, with possession, they try to combine and try to quickly get the ball into the penalty area from the wide areas. The most important thing, however, is that everyone there runs a lot, fights hard, and never gives up. And that's something we'll have to pay attention to," he continued. "We've been analyzing them, and the current coach was the assistant to their predecessor. He follows the same path. However, every coach has their own way of managing a match, and we've been looking at that as well. We need to evaluate this well to get the three points. I want to say that we have a difficult match ahead of us against a good opponent, well-managed, against good players who are in a similar position in the table as us. We have to do everything to get the three points. That's clear," he added.
Alvaro Raton has three yellow cards. Will the coach, fearing a suspension, warn the player to be wary of another caution? "We have various players who are at risk of receiving a card, and we have to be careful about that. But looking at our entire squad, we always tell them to give 100 percent. If someone goes off, the next player will jump in. In our case, we can't save anything for later; we always have to give 100 percent," he noted.
In the match against the team from Gliwice, there was a moment when the White Star allowed Piast more control, retreating slightly to the defense. So what can be done to avoid this? "I think it's simple. We always try to control the match 100 percent, we try to be proactive. That's our model of play, but we played against a very good opponent from the Ekstraklasa, and it's obvious that there are moments when you have to defend. The most important thing is to know how to behave in those moments. For about twelve or fourteen minutes, we defended together, and when we had a chance, we scored the second goal. That was very well managed by my team," he replied.
Dawid Olejarka and Igor Sapała were not included in the squad for the match against Piastniki. How did the players react to this decision? "They weren't happy about it, but that's what I expect from my players who aren't on the roster. We try to take care of the players, get them ready to play, but if three or four players don't make the squad, they still have to be ready. We make the best decisions for the team, we try to make the best decisions for the players. And if we look at the table, which is very tight, we'll need everyone on board," he noted.
