The rattle of footballs was heard again near Wawel Castle
The final round of the FBF League was played at the MOS Kraków Zachód stadium on March 23-24. The White Star BF players earned 6 out of a possible 9 points, which prevented them from advancing in the league table and ended the season bottom of the podium.
Last weekend saw the final round of international competition, during which Wisła's blind football section had the opportunity to face teams from Austria, the Czech Republic, Belgium, Kosovo, and Poland. Over the course of three rounds, Wisła BF managed to earn points that ultimately secured third place for the season.
"The completed season was a project that allowed teams without domestic leagues to compete internationally. Of course, we're not happy with our final position. We had a lot of bad luck throughout the season, and it wasn't until Kraków that we finally managed to assemble a full squad to fight for promotion in the league table. Unfortunately, something was missing. However, we can be happy with our form despite such a long break, especially considering the upcoming challenges," said Marcin Ryszka, captain of Wisła BF.
The White Star BF players defeated Warta Poznań BF 4-1 in their opening match, with Jung, Zinkow, and Krzyszkowski scoring twice. They lost 2-1 to ÖBSV Select, despite dominating the match from start to finish, with Ryszka scoring the home goal.
"Even on our home turf, bad luck continued to plague us, and I learned this most painfully when an attempt to stop an opponent's attack ended in my own goal. Another goal for the Viennese team was the result of our very high level of play. It's a real shame about this match, especially since our numerous attempts landed on the posts, crossbars, and in the goalkeeper's gloves," describes Mateusz Krzyszkowski.
Saturday's loss to Austria ended their chances of winning anything more than bronze, while also hyping up the team for the clash with Avoy MU Brno. The Czechs were top of the league table, and a potential defeat to Wisła BF could have ended their chances of winning gold – and so it did. White Star BF won 1-0 with a corner kick. Martin Jung scored again, thus becoming the season's top scorer.
The Vienna team seized their opportunity and won their final match of the season, thus surpassing the Czechs, with a significant contribution from Wisła bF. They finished second, while our team finished third.
"Each of us secretly hoped we'd be able to win a slightly more precious medal at the end, but many factors would have to come together for that. For me, the most important thing is that a month before the start of the premiere season of the Polish league, we have reason to be optimistic. It's clear that the work put in over the past few months – despite a break from training and playing under pressure – is visible on the pitch. The behaviors, the automatic movements, the patterns – all of it is working, although it needs some polishing. Fortunately, we still have some time for that," adds Dominik Foryś, coach of Wisła Kraków BF.
The players and staff of Wisła Kraków BF will soon face another – extremely prestigious – challenge, as the first round of the Polish blind football league will be played on April 27-28, in which the Kraków team will want to show their best side.
Congratulations!
