Zwoliński: We showed great character
The Polish Cup campaign got off to a good start for Wisła Kraków, who secured a spot in the Round of 16 of the Thousand Teams Cup by defeating Siarka Tarnobrzeg 3-2. After the match, we spoke with one of the goalscorers, Łukasz Zwoliński.
"How can I sum it up? We definitely expected a tough match. Maybe not this tough, but in the end, what matters is the result and the victory. In the previous round, many candidates for winning the Polish Cup were eliminated, so we had to take into account that this really wasn't an easy match. In the end, we showed great character," he began.
Wisła Kraków triumphed in the previous edition of the Polish Cup. Did this thought influence the players' attitude before the match? "No, and I wouldn't interpret it that way. Such a thought is motivating for the opponent, because every coach will want his players to show their best. It's motivation for the teams that face us. There are never easy matches in the Polish Cup, because one match can decide everything," he said.
The Krakow team wasn't immune to mistakes in their clash with Siarka. "We certainly can't afford to concede a goal so quickly. We score to make it 2-0, we want to go for the third or fourth, and then we concede within thirty seconds. We need to work on that. We'll have to analyze it and draw conclusions. We can't make mistakes that allow the opponent to quickly get back into the game and score a goal. We want to play offensively, we want to attack and create as many chances as possible and score goals," he added.
Łukasz Zwoliński was one of the goalscorers in Tarnobrzeg. "I'm very happy that I could contribute to the victory. It's always nice to score, especially in such an important match, but the most important thing is that we all advanced as a team," he concluded.
Wisła fans were once again denied entry to the stadium, but this time they showed up to support the team. Once again, the team tried to show their support and solidarity. Will this gesture become a permanent fixture for you? "The fans are incredibly important to us, even if they can't be in the stands. We feel their support every step of the way, and the fact that they come to the stadium shows how deeply connected they are to the team," Zwoliński emphasized. "Every match without fans is definitely more difficult, but their presence, even behind the fence, gives us extra motivation. I think this ritual will remain with us until the situation changes. We want them to know that we play for them, too," he concluded.
