U-19: Leader defeated!
Coach Karol Nędza's side faced table-topping Legia Warsaw on Saturday morning in the 10th round of the Central Junior League. The Kraków team rose to the occasion and displayed excellent form, defeating the Warsaw side 3-2. Szymon Kawała, Maciej Jania, and Dawid Gap scored for the Reymont team.
The White Star players entered today's match eager to redeem themselves after last week's heavy defeat to Śląsk Wrocław. The young Wisła players faced a formidable challenge this time, facing Legia Warsaw, currently in first place in the U-19 Central Junior League. However, the hosts started the match in the best possible fashion, quickly taking control and creating chances in front of the visitors' goal. Their opponents, in turn, were forced to resist the pressure exerted by the home side, which caused them considerable difficulty as they consistently asserted themselves, creating threats in the penalty area. The Kraków team's form shone in the 10th minute, when they once again launched a strong team effort, leading Szymon Kawała to find the back of the net. The lead boosted Wisła's players, who were increasingly causing trouble for Legia Warsaw's defense, and soon after, they demonstrated their precision once again, scoring a second goal. In the 19th minute, a cross from Szymon Kawała's free kick was headed by a Legia player. The Warsaw goalkeeper tried to catch it, but he lost his grip, and Maciej Jania found the ball and slotted it home. Around the 30th minute, the visitors began to seize the initiative, pushing for a goal, forcing Wiktor Sierda into action several times, and in the 38th minute, they finally achieved their goal, making it 2-1. Wisła won several more corners in the closing stages, but ultimately failed to convert their set pieces.
Great disposition of the White Star
After the break, the Kraków team went back to fighting for all three points, and initially, they once again dominated the match. The Warsaw team also continued to push forward, creating several good chances, but Wisła Kraków remained the dominant force and found the Legia goal more often. The home side created a golden opportunity to extend their lead right after the start of the second half when, after a well-organized move, Hugo Woyna-Orlewicz fired a shot on target, and Tomasz Dusik attempted to finish, but the opposing goalkeeper was on guard and reacted quickly to prevent another concede. The remainder of the match saw plenty of chances, with Maksym Tsymbaliuk, Hugo Woyna-Orlewicz, Tomasz Dusik, and Wiktor Benedyktowicz all attempting to capitalize on them, but to no avail. In the 80th minute, Wisła attacked. Adam Pieniądz's pass finally reached Dawid Gap, who raced towards the penalty area and slotted the ball into the net with a powerful shot. The final minutes of the match belonged to the opposition, who capitalized on a moment of inattention from the home side, making it 3-2.
