U-19: Snatched victory against Lech
The U-19 team claimed another victory in the Central Junior League!
The U-19 team claimed another victory in the Central Junior League! Coach Karol Nędza's men defeated Lech Poznań 3-2 at home in their 8th round of the CLJ. Szymon Kawała, Maciej Jania, and Filip Kowalski were among the White Star's scorers.
We've seen another fierce, evenly matched match between Wisła's young players, with plenty of excitement throughout. The first half started well for Poznań, and they looked slightly better in this part of the match, but their initial efforts didn't lead to any clear-cut chances in front of Jakub Kowalski's goal. That changed in the 13th minute, when a Lech player slotted a free kick into the net, opening the scoring. The hosts also kept busy, creating increasingly good shooting opportunities, and one of them hit the crossbar, saving the visitors from conceding a goal. The Kraków side's consistency paid off in stoppage time. It was then, after a throw-in from the lineout, that Szymon Kawała leveled the score with a spectacular volley.
Wisła is victorious!
After the break, the visitors once again dominated, quickly attacking and taking the lead again, scoring their second goal in the 48th minute. Fortune smiled on Wisła just a few dozen seconds later, when the referee issued a second yellow card, and consequently a red card, forcing the visitors to play with a man down for almost the entire second half. This situation forced the hosts to react, as they began to take control and launch dangerous attacks. However, the Kraków team had to wait until the 83rd minute for another goal on target, when Maciej Jania, following a cross from the left, headed the ball into the net. The White Star team steadily pushed for victory, but their opponents also persisted, trying to give the hosts another hard time. This feat was unsuccessful, and Wisła sealed their victory in the final action of the match, following a brilliantly executed move, with Filip Kowalski's shot.
"I'm glad that as a team we're fighting for victory until the very end, and even if we don't have the upper hand at times or the score isn't favorable, we don't lose confidence and we're confidently going for the three points. It was a bit easier for us in the second half today because we had the lead, but that doesn't change the fact that we had to work hard for the win, because the opponent didn't give in until the very end. From my side, congratulations to the players for their attitude, which is very encouraging for the upcoming matches," said coach Karol Nędza after the match.
