U-19: Three points for the rivals

Wisła Kraków ended the 2024/25 Central Junior League U-19 season with a 1-2 defeat to Polonia Warsaw. Although the White Star led for a long time, it was ultimately their rivals from the capital that took all three points. The team, led by coach Patryk Jałocha, thus finishes the season just outside the top three.

The final match of the CLJ was supposed to be a chance for Wisła to cap off a successful season with a victory, and the start of the game actually gave us high hopes for a successful outcome. In the 16th minute, after a seemingly harmless play, Karol Nowak misdirected the ball into his own net, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead. After this, the home side took matters into their own hands and boldly pressed forward, searching for further opportunities in front of the visitors' goal. Wisła controlled the proceedings until halftime, but Polonia also managed to mount a dangerous attack. The teams went into the break with Wisła Kraków in the lead.

A missed opportunity

In the second half, Kraków's players pushed for a motivated lead, but their opponents proved more determined and better organized. Mikołaj Zarzecki equalized in the 54th minute, capitalizing on a near-goal mix-up, and in the 71st minute, Nowak made amends for his first-half own goal in the best possible way. The Polonia player, after a spectacular move, headed the ball into the net to make it 2-1. This goal proved decisive, especially since Wisła had to finish the match with ten men. Konrad Furman received a red card for fouling an opponent who was about to gain a clear position.

Despite their defeat in the final round, the Reymont team can consider their season a success. Last year, the team fought to the very end to avoid relegation, ultimately securing it with a resounding 7-0 victory in the derby against Cracovia. Today, the team finishes just off the podium, demonstrating steady development and increasingly mature play.

Wisła Kraków - Polonia Warsaw 1:2 (1:0)
1:0 Nowak 16' (own goal)
1:1 Zarzecki 54'
1:2 Nowak 71'
