U-17: Victory in the Derby!
In the first match of the spring round of the U-17 Central Junior League, Wisła Kraków hosted Cracovia at home, and the derby ended in a 2-1 victory for the home side. Mateusz Maszewski and Alan Bąk scored for the White Star, securing their team a successful start to the second half of the season.
From the first whistle, Cracovia adopted bold tactics, positioning themselves high and attempting to hinder the hosts' buildup through aggressive pressing. Wisła consistently attempted to break free of their opponents' pressure, and when they managed to break through the first line of defense, they were able to create dangerous opportunities in front of goal. Around the 10th minute, the hosts opened the scoring in spectacular fashion. Kacper Kopijka confidently took possession in midfield, quickly spotted the well-positioned Michał Chramiec, and set his teammate on. Chramiec delivered a precise cross to the far post, where Mateusz Maszewski was waiting. The Wisła striker rose highest in the penalty area and confidently headed the ball into the net, giving his team the lead. Despite conceding a goal, the visitors refused to give up and continued to consistently press high, trying to force the hosts into mistakes. Wisła, meanwhile, improved with each passing minute in breaking through their opponents' pressure, creating more scoring opportunities. Milan Olej and Jakub Czubernat, among others, had their chances, but their attempts were effectively blocked by the Cracovia goalkeeper. Although Wisła had more scoring opportunities, the visitors managed to equalize after an unfortunate defensive error by the hosts. In one seemingly harmless situation, Daniel Zdeb attempted to pass the ball to his goalkeeper but misplaced it, allowing his opponent to quickly intercept the ball and slot it into the net. The unexpected equalizer boosted Cracovia's confidence, but Wisła regained the lead before the end of the first half. After a set piece, the hosts once again demonstrated their effectiveness in the opponent's penalty area. The cross was sent to the far post, where the perfectly placed Alan Bąk beat the Pasy goalkeeper, making it 2-1.
Wisła, weakened, defends a valuable victory
The hosts started the second half in the worst possible way. Just minutes after the restart, the referee issued Mateusz Maszewski a second yellow card, meaning the first-time goal scorer had to leave the field, leaving his team shorthanded for over 40 minutes. Despite their numerical advantage, Cracovia didn't immediately take control of the match. Wisła continued to play boldly and didn't retreat, applying high pressure for as long as they could. However, as the minutes ticked by, the home team's intensity began to wane, allowing their opponents to mount increasingly dangerous offensive attacks. Cracovia seized the initiative and began to dominate possession, trying to find a gap in Wisła's well-organized defense. Despite the visitors' visual advantage, the home defense remained extremely focused, preventing their opponents from creating many clear-cut chances. The most dangerous moment occurred when a Cracovia player fired a shot that hit the post. Until the final whistle, Wisła skillfully deflected their opponents' attacks, preventing them from seriously threatening their goal. Despite the visitors' numerical advantage, the hosts were ultimately able to celebrate their victory, securing them a valuable three points to kick off the spring half of the season.
