U-19: confident victory against Odra Opole
Three goals, three points, and three points behind the leaders of the U-19 Central Junior League, Wisła Kraków's senior juniors comfortably defeated Odra Opole 3-0 away in their 13th round match. Wiktor Benedyktowicz, Łukasz Staniów, and Radosław Wójcicki shared the spoils.
Over the holiday weekend, Wisła Kraków U-19s were the last of the teams competing in the Central Junior League to enter action. On Saturday afternoon, the White Star's senior juniors comfortably defeated Odra Opole 3-0 away.
Wiślaki's killer finish
Wisła dominated play for almost the entire match, and the match was decided by halftime. In eight minutes, Wisła found the back of the net twice.
First, in the 37th minute, Viktor Benedyktowicz, who had come on in place of the injured Adam Pieniadza a few minutes earlier, found the net after a cross from Maksym Tsymbaliuk. The 18-year-old could have opened the scoring himself in the 25th minute, but his shot hit the post.
Just before halftime, coach Karol Nędza's side extended their lead. First, the Odra goalkeeper successfully saved Hugo Woyna-Orlewicz's shot on the goal line, but Łukasz Staniów headed the ball into the net after a corner kick and Tsymbaliuk's cross. Wisła squandered two more excellent opportunities before the break.
The game pattern remained unchanged after the break. Wisła held the initiative, but Radosław Wójcicki, who was introduced after the break, squandered a good opportunity. In the 71st minute, the White Star striker, after a through ball from Benedyktowicz, had his sights better aligned and, with a powerful shot past the defender, sealed another league victory for the White Star.
"I'm glad we stuck to the game plan we outlined for this week. We were able to effectively execute tasks under high pressing, which was key in this match. We maintained the high tempo we set for ourselves. I'm happy with the victory and congratulate my players on their performance," said U-19 coach Karol Nędza.
After 13 rounds, Wisła Kraków sits in fifth place in the Central Junior League table with 25 points. However, they are only three points behind the leader, Legia Warsaw.
In the next round of games, the White Star will host Górnik Zabrze in Myślenice. Kick-off is scheduled for Saturday, November 9th at 12:00 PM.
