U-16: fifth place in the tournament in Budapest
Last weekend, the Wisła Kraków U-16 team was in Budapest, where they had the opportunity to compete in the Signal Iduna Cup tournament, co-hosted by Borussia Dortmund. Coach Mickael Wolski's team finished fifth, trailing BVB Budapest and DAC Dunajska Streda.
Wisła kicked off their season with a match against BVB Budapest. The match ended in a 1-0 victory for the hosts, with Jan Szczepaniak scoring the only goal of the match.
"We started the tournament very well, opening the scoring after just eight minutes. We dominated our opponents technically and in terms of ball possession. Our opponents had their chances to equalize, but they missed the penalty," summed up coach Mickael Wolski.
In the second match of the tournament, the White Star fell short against Borussia Dortmund U-15, losing 1-3. Alan Bąk scored the goal for Wisła.
"It was a tight match, with both teams waiting for the other to make a mistake. The score remained goalless until halftime. In the second half, we made a mistake that resulted in BVB scoring, but later we equalized after a brilliant counter-attack by Bąk, who outplayed two center-backs. Unfortunately, due to a positioning error, we conceded a goal to make it 2-1, and moments later, our opponents tied the score," says coach Wolski.
On Sunday, Wisła finished the competition with a 3-1 victory over DAC Dunajska Streda from Slovakia, finishing the tournament in fifth place. Wiktor Balcer (twice) and Bartosz Wajda were among the scorers in that match.
"We played a very poor first half, lacking tactical rigor, losing the ball easily, and lacking intensity. And we were punished; we were losing 1-0 at halftime. During the break, we had a strong and substantive discussion. In the second half, the boys changed their game, which resulted in scoring three goals," summed up coach Mickael Wolski.
