U-19: winning streak maintained!
Wisła Kraków U-19 continues their winning streak in the Central Junior League. Coach Karol Nędza's side secured their fourth consecutive victory on Saturday, thrashing Lechia Gdańsk 5-1 away.
After impressive victories over Cracovia (4:1), Pogoń Szczecin (5:0) and Warta Poznań (2:0), Wisła's oldest team competing in the Central Junior League wanted to follow up and claim another victory against Lechia Gdańsk.
The White Star players dictated the game from the outset, but initially struggled to find the back of the net against the Tricity team. Hugo Woyna-Orlewicz squandered two excellent opportunities in the opening minutes, including a penalty. Before the break, Wisła took the lead thanks to Radosław Wójcicki, who, after a pass from the wide area, turned with his opponent on his back and fired near the post to open the scoring.
Cannonade of gunfire after the break
After the break, the White Star players left their opponents with no illusions. Adam Pieniądz scored twice, and both moves were identical. Maciej Pachel's ball from the wide area went to Dawid Gap, who then spotted the approaching Pieniądz, who completed the scoring.
Jan Molenda added another goal to the account of coach Karol Nędza's team, finishing off a quick counter-attack with an accurate shot after Wisła took over the ball near the midfield.
The final goal, however, was an own goal after Michał Prochwicz burst into the Lechia penalty area. The defender's shot from about 16 meters out deflected off a defender, completely confusing the Tricity team's goalkeeper. The ball then bounced off the crossbar and into the net.
In stoppage time, after a quick counterattack, Lechia scored a consolation goal.
"We're consistently implementing what we work on in training. It's gratifying that our hard work is rewarded with a sporting result that we don't directly target. Our game demonstrates many elements, both in defense and attack, that stem from our daily work. The boys are able to execute them at an increasingly higher level," summarizes U-19 coach Karol Nędza.
Wisła has 12 points after five rounds. In the sixth round of matches, the White Star will host Stal Rzeszów in Myślenice. The match kicks off on Saturday, September 14th, at 12:00 PM.
