Three goals for three points: #PGSWIS 1:3
The Betclic 1 League match of Round 12 between Pogoń Siedlce and Wisła Kraków secured three crucial points for the White Star. Despite conceding a goal, the R22 side turned the tables, winning 3-1 thanks to two goals from Rafał Mikulec and a strike from Angel Rodado.
The match in Siedlce started as expected. Wisła Kraków launched a powerful attack from the outset, with Rodado and Igbekeme quickly trying to find the back of the net. However, Pogoń managed to strike back with counterattacks, one of which resulted in a potentially dangerous free kick.
The Kraków defense was late to receive the cross, and referee Kochanek awarded the penalty for a foul in the penalty area. Patryk Letkiewicz made a brilliant save from the penalty spot, saving Hrnciar's shot. However, he was left without a chance when Karol Podliński's rebound was scored, and it was the home side who took the lead first in the seventh minute.
This match scenario seemed like a dream come true for Adam Nocoń's team. Pogoń shifted to a deep defense, and the White Star rushed towards Pruchniewski's goal, seeking a draw. In the 26th minute, Wisła displayed a brilliant combination move that surprised the opponents' massive defense. Angel Rodado skillfully extended the play to the left, and Rafał Mikulec, joining in with a powerful shot, secured a crucial equalizer.
The first half was frequently interrupted by the whistle. The fourth official signaled six minutes of added time, but coach Mariusz Jop's men, despite numerous attempts, were unable to find the back of the net. After a short break, the teams were reshuffled and 45 minutes were left to secure the three points.
Take the lead
The second half saw a continuation of the first half's pattern. Wisła attacked with their entire team, searching for more goals. Pogoń, on the other hand, defended aggressively, often relying on the simplest of solutions. This pattern of play left the game lacking open spaces, and the Kraków team struggled to capitalize on their strengths.
Fortunately, Rafał Mikulec arrived at today's match in exceptional scoring form. The full-back, like a true striker, finished off Wisła's long-building attack and, with a precise shot just inside the post, scored a double, giving his team the lead. It was the 52nd minute, and from then on, the visitors were winning 2-1. Interestingly, Angel Rodado once again stepped up to provide the assist.
Pogoń Siedlce, who were trailing, were forced to open up, allowing the players in red shirts to gain momentum. The Spaniard didn't have to wait long to add to his tally, as he scored from close range in the 59th minute, converting a pass from Łukasz Zwoliski to make it 3-1. The White Star comfortably led and clearly dictated the game. Further goals seemed inevitable, as Wisła, bolstered by a series of substitutions, continued to press the somewhat reeling hosts.
Sukiennicki and Duarte, who were brought on, were clearly eager to add to their tally. However, the ball failed to find the net for the fourth time, and Wisła Kraków won the away match 3-1. They head to Wawel Castle with the full points.
