Coaching duet: Wisła - Górnik Łęczna
Wisła Kraków secured three points on Sunday, seeing off Górnik Łęczna, who scored four goals against their opponent. Coaches Ireneusz Mamrot and Mariusz Jop summarized the on-field action.
Ireneusz Mamrot - Górnik Łęczna
"Well, I can't say much positive about our performance. We lost decisively and deservedly. There's no doubt about that, but our only moment in the match where we had any positive vibes was after halftime. We pushed the ball a bit higher. There were a few tackles, and there was even a 1-1 chance for Marko Roginić. Wisła, on the other hand, created many more chances, and in fact, it could have ended with an even higher score. What I'm complaining about is that it was clear how the match was shaping up, and we couldn't spread ourselves out like that, making such distances. The paradox is that Wisła created most of their chances on the counterattack. When you play against such a good team, you can't leave them that much space. That's definitely our weakness, because we worked hard all season to build a solid defense, and these last few matches have fallen apart. There's no denying it, and we have a lot of work to do this week to get back to that." I definitely expect this kind of sportsmanship from the team now. It's the last match, we're going to Arka Gdynia, they're also a very strong opponent, but we're going there to play for three points," he concluded.
Mariusz Jop - Wisla Kraków
"I think there can only be one comment – it was a great match by us. We were very aggressive, we were close to the opponent, and we won a lot of the ball high up, just as we wanted. I think it was a very good match by us, and it's hard to add anything more," he said.
Wisła allowed their opponent to have a say only in the first quarter of the second half of the match.
"Situations like this will happen; the statistics are in our favor. I think it stemmed from the players' energy for Thursday's match. If you take risks, go high, play one-on-one, there will be situations where the opponent will also have their chances. This was a moment we survived; we were in a low defense for a while, a normal situation. There are stages of the match when we'll be in that position," he analyzed.
According to one journalist, the team from the Lublin region has set the bar low for the White Star. What does the coach say about this?
"I don't think Górnik Łęczna set the bar low for us. That was due to our very good play, our pressing, our tenacity, our commitment, and our desire to dominate. We can look at it from different perspectives. I see it this way: Wisła created such difficult conditions for their opponent that they were simply unable to do anything," he replied.
The second goal for the Krakow team came from a set piece, which was well finished by Szymon Sobczak.
"We scored from a corner kick, and there were a lot of set pieces. At the beginning, we couldn't quite find a good cross, and Dudi tried, and Jesus tried, and Gogi actually played it to the point we wanted. Just like we practiced. It's good that we also scored from a set piece, and I think it will give the team a boost, so we can be effective in that phase of the game," he continued.
Dominik Sarga made his debut in the club from R22, and coach Mariusz Jop was asked to evaluate his performance:
"As for Dominik, he made a positive start. There was a moment when he shared the ball, and if he had been more selfish, he could have even scored. However, I rate his start as good. A debut for a young guy is great. I think he's made a positive start."
Did Szymon Sobczak's two goals and two assists mean that we will see him up front with Angel Rodado in the next match?
"We'll think about it. Szymek played very well. Besides scoring two goals and providing an assist, he also worked hard defensively, which is encouraging. It's nice that he's having such a headache. Maybe we'll actually manage to get both of them in the starting eleven," concluded coach Mariusz Jop.
