#SuperCup: We're back at PGE Narodowy!
On April 2nd at 9:00 PM, Wisła Kraków will take to the pitch at the PGE Narodowy Stadium for the second time in 12 months to spring another surprise! At stake will be the Polish Super Cup against Jagiellonia Białystok – a trophy that the White Star has won only once in their rich history. We invite you to a short preview of this match.
The year was 2001, and Wisła Kraków completely outclassed the domestic competition. Over the course of the entire calendar year, the Wawel team won the Polish Championship, the Polish Cup, the currently discontinued League Cup, and the Super Cup, won 4-3 by Polonia Warsaw in the July heat.
Jagiellonia also had the opportunity to place this often underestimated trophy in their club cabinet in the past - thanks to winning the Polish Cup final for the 2009/10 edition, at the beginning of the following season they faced Lech Poznań and, beating the then Polish Champion 1-0, extended their achievements with the aforementioned title.
In the league matches leading up to the final, Wisła fared much better, defeating Kotwica Kołobrzeg 2-1 with goals from Uryga and Rodado. On the other side, Adrian Siemienic's side were dissatisfied with their away performance in Gdańsk, losing 1-0 to Lechia Gdańsk, who were fighting to stay in the league. However, no one in Kraków would have any complaints if a similar result had been achieved on Wednesday evening.
This time, Białystok will play as the reigning Polish Champions, having overtaken Śląsk Wrocław and Legia Warsaw in the final stretch of the podium. Wisła, on the other hand, will naturally play as Polish Cup winners after their historic turnaround against Pogoń Szczecin last May. The team from Podlasie is considered the favorite, but the White Star has shown time and again in recent months that they should never be condemned to defeat.
See you at the National!
