Sobczak: This match wasn't pretty, but we kept it under control

After the November international break, Wisła Kraków picked up three points in a frantic match played at the R22. Szymon Sobczak, with whom we spoke after the match, provided two assists for his teammates' goals.

"Winning like this is so delicious. Not only for us players, but also for the fans, because we should have faith in each of us until the very end. We often talk about it, but then we sometimes forget, but then come games like the one against GKS, and it gave us back so much of our season. I don't remember us coming back like we did in this match. In our last action, we secured the victory in a match that was incredibly important to us. Even draws don't bring us joy, so winning in these circumstances is doubly satisfying," he began. "I like to emphasize that we should stop behaving as if no opponent has the right to touch us. It doesn't work that way. Every opponent wants to do their own thing, and there are moments in the match when you have to be able to defend, even sometimes playing low defense. Of course, I know that when the score was 1-1, I had a good opportunity, I could have shot more precisely, and it could have been 2-1 for us. Above all, from a pitch perspective, I think we conceded goals too easily. After recent matches, in which we performed very well defensively, it paints a slightly different picture of our game. In the end, however, we're happy with the three points, because that's what we were aiming for. Honestly? In this match, it wasn't about style, it was about winning. And that's how it will be until the end of the season. We know what the table looks like, so style takes a back seat; we only count the points. That's all we'll be focusing on until the end of the year," he added.

One of Sobczak's assists was completely unusual, as it was scored from behind. "Rollercoaster... Some people say it was a fluke about the first one. I'll say this: I saw Igor Sapała send a good long pass. It was practiced to use the free spaces. Maybe my timing wasn't perfect in that situation, but I saw the ball coming and I wanted to pass it to Goku, no matter what. He took it well and the goal was scored. Above all, we were looking for shots in this match. That was okay. Maybe we still lacked precision, maybe the pitch isn't perfect, which sometimes doesn't help when the final pass seems easy, but it turns out differently. And as for that last assist and goal, I have to emphasize this strongly, I really want it to resonate. We said this to ourselves in a circle after the final whistle - we have to always play until the last second, because that's how this league is, you have to approach it that way. I think it hasn't fully sunk in yet, what we managed to achieve in this match. We won a match that could have been a success." Quite the opposite. Let's appreciate it because it's our small step, a small light at the end of the tunnel, the beginning of something more lasting," he announced.

Sobczak also did a great job on Angel Baena's goal, passing the ball to his teammate from the wing. "I've played on the wing before. The guys were laughing that I probably would have liked to receive balls like that as a striker. We have players who can throw them in like that. And as for that play, everything worked. I got the cross home, Angel hit the target. If we tried it ten times, I don't know how many times we would have succeeded. It was a brilliant counterattack and the most important finish. Needless to say, the last play of the match, the goal, and I think you could see from our joy how much we wanted this win. I think as a team we deserved it. I know the match wasn't pretty, but we kept it under control. We didn't let up for a moment. Even when we conceded a goal to make it 1-2, there were signals from the pitch that we could turn the game around. We did it!" he continued.
