Wisła Women: Inaugural win against Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski

On Sunday afternoon, the White Star first team kicked off their spring season. The match ended with a resounding 11-0 victory for Wisła over Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski.

The match against Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski was certainly a spectacle. From the outset, the home team dictated the game and forced their way into the opponents' penalty area. Monika Jaskółka broke the scoring basket after just a few minutes with a header from a free kick. By the end of the match, the referee's scoresheet included Jaskółka twice, with a left-footed shot from 16 yards out into the top corner and after a mix-up in the penalty area; Łatka with long-range shots with both her left and right feet; Sobolewska directly from a corner kick and a left-footed long-range shot into the top corner; Mikulińska into an empty net after an assist from Skibińska; Kuciel after a long corner with her right foot; Lorenc after the rebound from Mikulińska; and Łagowska with both long-range and near-post shots with her right foot.

#ZNIWIS match without the participation of visiting fans

The 28th round of the FORTUNA 1 League will be played without Wisła Kraków fans in attendance. A letter from the hosts states that the Znicz Pruszków management board has decided not to accept an organized group of visiting fans based on the provisions of Resolution No. II/85 of the Polish Football Association Management Board regarding specific cases where there are realistic indications of a potential threat to the safety of participants or the course of the match.

Znicz Pruszków used the events in Radłów. The letter reads: "(...) On August 5, 2023, during a match between Wisła Kraków and Unia Tarnów fans, a tragic incident occurred, involving, among others, Wisła Kraków fans, resulting in the death of a fan of the other team. Therefore, considering that Zagłębie Sosnowiec and BKS Bielsko-Biała fans may view the above event as a 'defeat,' they may seek revenge on Wisła Kraków fans in connection with our team's match. This is supported by the fact that Znicz fans also identify as Legia Warsaw fans. Pruszków's location allows for a possible attack by Wisła Kraków fans, whether by Zagłębie Sosnowiec, Legia Warszawa, or Radomiak Radom." "Therefore, we believe that the participation of an organized group of Wisła Kraków fans during the mass event scheduled for April 19th could very likely result in a life-threatening situation for both participants and bystanders. Furthermore, it could disrupt public order and cause property damage. Therefore, the MKS Znicz Pruszków Club Management Board is forced to make this decision."

No winner: Wisła Płock - Wisła Kraków 1:1

The White Star players came to Płock for the 27th round, where they faced their namesake team from Płock. Ultimately, the two teams were forced to split the points, resulting in a 1-1 draw.

The White Star went into the match in Płock without the banned players Dawid Szot, Jesus Alfaro, and Bartosz Jaroch. Angel Rodado returned from injury to the lineup to bolster the Kraków side's attack. The match was played at a fast pace from the start. White Star was the more active player in the opening minutes, but the home side were the first to attack with a dangerous counterattack towards the R22 team's goal. Fortunately, Marc Carbó was well-positioned and cleared the ball away from his opponent.

The next chance for coach Dariusz Żuraw's players came in the 12th minute, but this time Alvaro Raton prevailed in a one-on-one with David Niepsuj. In response, the Kraków team pushed down the right wing, but the pressured Sobczak couldn't get a shot off. We saw alternating attacks in the following minutes. However, there was no real threat after them. The Kraków team focused on positional attacks, while their opponents tried to turn the tables with counterattacks. The 26th minute saw a good save from Colley, who cleared the ball from just outside the line, which was heading towards the net. The Wawel team launched a series of attacks in the following minutes, but their precision was lacking. Finally, five minutes before the end of the first half, Duda opted for a long-range shot. Krzyżanowski ran for the rebound but couldn't control the ball. Just after a few minutes, Rodado fired a stinging shot that the Płock goalkeeper spit out, but no one could find the post. Płock remained goalless until halftime.

Immediately after the break, in the 49th minute, the Kraków team had a chance to take the lead, but Villar's powerful cross couldn't be closed down. Nine minutes later, the hosts were celebrating a goal, taking the lead through Fryderyk Gerbowski. The White Star had half an hour to turn the tables. To this end, coach Rude deployed new forces, and one of the substitutes, Dejvi Bregu, almost scored in the 80th minute, but it ended in a corner. The set piece could have ended well for the R22 team, but the ball ultimately ended up in the goalkeeper's hands. The final phase of the match saw Wisła Kraków try hard, but their decision-making precision in front of goal, or simply their efficiency, was lacking. Until the very end, the players from the capital of Małopolska fought to change the score, and finally succeeded in the 90th minute, when Igor Sapała, who had been sent off moments earlier, equalized. Seven minutes of added time were expected to determine the winner. And indeed, there was a fierce battle on the pitch, but no further goals were scored. The match in Płock ended in a draw.
