Beat the Leader: #WISLGD Match Preview

For the first time since the final in Warsaw, the White Star players will be able to showcase their skills live to their fans. In the 32nd round of the Fortuna 1 Liga, Wisła Kraków will host Lechia Gdańsk at the Reymonta Stadium. Kick-off for this exciting match is scheduled for May 11th at 5:30 PM.

Both Wisła and Lechia fans are eager to see their favorite teams in the next edition of the PKO BP Ekstraklasa. Our Saturday guests are now closer to that goal – the Gdańsk team leads the league table with 62 points. Their lead is so significant that a successful result in the upcoming match could guarantee them direct promotion just two rounds before the end of the season.

The Krakow team's situation has become somewhat more difficult after the recent draw. They still need to consistently pick up points to achieve their goal, but the margin for error is practically zero at the moment. The play-off zone is very tight, so any result could ultimately prove crucial. Furthermore, a home victory against the leaders would undoubtedly be a highly motivating factor in the final stretch of the season.

The two teams have already faced each other twice in the 2023/2024 season, and each time was a very close contest. The first of these clashes was the opening round of the Polish Cup, where the contest required extra time to be decided. As we know, thanks to Baena's goal in the 105th minute, Wisła Kraków emerged victorious 2-1. The next match, however, was a league match at the Polsat Plus Arena Gdańsk, in which neither team scored.

We can certainly expect an incredibly exciting spectacle. Two high-quality teams will be on the pitch, eager to compete for the highest possible honors. In his pre-match press conference, coach Albert Rudé highlighted the numerous scoring opportunities created, though they weren't matched by the intensity needed in front of goal. A good scoring form and the support of the crowd could prove crucial in this situation, propelling the Kraków team to a much-needed three points!

Together for promotion!
