Artur Sarnat is dead
Very sad news broke across Poland today. On the night of November 16-17, Artur Sarnat, an outstanding goalkeeper for the White Star from 1993 to 2002, passed away at the age of 54 after a short battle with a serious illness.
Artur Sarnat was born on September 20, 1970, and his love of Wisła was passed down to him by his father, Ryszard, a brilliant striker for the White Star. Although Artur Sarnat took his first steps in football at Wawel Kraków, it was with R22 that he experienced his best moments. He spent almost 10 years there, playing 257 matches and keeping almost 100 clean sheets.
His presence between the posts has proven his worth to the team time and again, serving as a key part of the White Star's defense. He and his teammates won the Polish Championship twice: in 1999 and 2001. They also won the League Cup, the Polish Cup, and the Super Cup. The international matches, when Sarnat guarded Wisła's goal in matches against Real Zaragoza, FC Barcelona, and Inter Milan, among others, will undoubtedly be remembered.
Apart from Wisła, he also played for Diyarbakirspor in Turkey, Polonia Warszawa, KSZO Ostrowiec, Cracovia and Korona Kielce.
On behalf of the management, staff, players and employees of Wisła Kraków, we offer our sincerest condolences to the family of the deceased.
May he rest in peace
