Unconquered Lublin region: #GKŁWIS 1:0
Even though it's October, Górnik Łęczna and Wisła Kraków faced off for a long-overdue match in Round 6 of the Betclic 1 League. The only highlight of Tuesday's match was a 51st-minute goal for the home side, securing them a perfect lead.
The first phase of the match in Łęczna was evenly matched, but the majority of the action was in midfield. It wasn't until the 10th minute that the hosts had a clear-cut opportunity, which fortunately resulted in only a set piece.
In the following minutes, the Green and Black players continued to be more active, although this didn't translate into scoring opportunities. The Kraków side had a chance to score in the 21st minute, but Zwoliński and Alfaro lacked precision in their attempts.
Górnik didn't have to wait long for an attack. The hosts came close to winning just four minutes later, but failed to capitalize on a mix-up in the White Star's penalty area. Moments later, Bartosz Jaroch attempted a shot, but the ball sailed wide of the goal, guarded by Pindroch.
The final quarter of the first half was an even affair. Before the halftime whistle, Kraków won a set piece, but no one could close down the free kick. Łęczna's players responded and once again tested Letkiewicz's play, but he managed to catch the ball. Jaroch also had another shot, but the ball didn't even reach the target. The halftime clock showed 0-0.
One hit is enough to win
Both teams started the second half with unchanged lineups. The Kraków team were the first to test Górnik's goalkeeper, but he had no trouble making saves. Subsequent attacks fueled Wisła's efforts, pushing for control of the pitch. And they succeeded, until Łęczna counterattacked in the 50th minute, taking the lead thanks to a goal from Jakub Bednarczyk.
This situation forced coach Jop to make a substitution. He brought on Olivier Sukiennicki, who replaced Angel Rodado in the 58th minute. Moments earlier, the ball had fluttered into the net after a shot by Zwoliński, but the referee ruled it offside.
One hundred and twenty seconds later, the home side's momentum returned when Alan Uryga made a slight mistake. James Igbekeme attempted another long-range shot, but his effort was also off target.
As time ticked away, Wisła's lead grew. To further extend their lead, the White Star team made two more substitutions: Duarte replaced Alfaro, and Kiakos replaced Kissa. However, fouls from both sides hampered the flow of play.
The final stages of the match saw a flurry of activity in Górnik's penalty area, but the ball couldn't find the back of the net. Eleven minutes of added time didn't help Wisła either, failing to add a single point to their tally this time.
