High five with Odra: #WISODR 5:0
Wisła Kraków put on a real offensive display on Friday evening, defeating Odra Opole 5-0 at home. The scorers were Jesus Alfaro, Tamas Kiss, Angel Rodado, and Łukasz Zwoliński twice.
For the first quarter of an hour, Odra Opole's defenders were limited to clearing the ball away from the penalty area. Coach Sobolewski's men clearly struggled to get out of their own half and to generate any semblance of a dangerous attack in front of the debuting goalkeeper, Patryk Letkiewicz.
After a difficult start, the visitors from Opole seemed to have the worst behind them. They managed to weather Wisła's siege and, at times, launched promising counterattacks thanks to long passes. However, after a while, the players in red were able to shift into higher gear and create further chances.
In the 35th minute, Alfaro found himself one-on-one with the Odra goalkeeper, unfortunately losing the duel. Just 180 seconds later, the White Star took a free kick from a favorable position. Rodado opted for a direct shot, unluckily hitting the post. Wisła Kraków continued to push for an equalizer until the halftime whistle. However, they failed, and the outcome was decided after the break.
To start a rival
Wisła started the second half brilliantly, and in one of their first actions, Jesus Alfaro scored from a set piece! It was in the 48th minute, and the goal drought seemed to finally be over, as the next goalscoring attempts didn't take long. In the 52nd minute, the hosts found themselves attacking on the counter-attack – Tamas Kiss won a face-off with the goalkeeper, extending the lead to 2-0! The Hungarians didn't stop there, as none other than Angel Rodado scored in the 58th minute to make it 3-0!
The visitors were unable to recover from this series of blows, and after a brief pause in the match, the Kraków team resumed their scoring. Łukasz Zwoliński converted a favorable opportunity into another goal in the 68th minute, and from then on, the scoreboard showed an impressive 4-0. Coach Jop made a number of changes, allowing some players to rest in favorable circumstances. Although the pace of the match slowed somewhat, the hosts continued to maintain their attacking play. Referee Stefański decided to add 10 minutes of added time, suggesting the White Star hadn't yet said its final word.
In the 93rd minute, Zwoliński scored another 5-0 double from close range. It was the final goal of the evening. Despite the rain, it was worth attending the stadium to witness Wisła's strong performance. Three points remain at Wawel Castle!
