An extraordinary cycling expedition: Fans will ride from Wisła to Krakow

The world of sports is full of passion, determination, and love for their teams. Wisła Kraków fans are once again proving they're willing to go to great lengths to show their dedication. This time, a few daredevils from the amateur, informal Wiślacka Rowerowa (Wisła Cycling Group) decided to take on the challenge in June and cycle from Wisła to Kraków, covering nearly 180 km.

The cycling expedition, under the patronage of the Wisła History Association, aims to remind people of the existence of the Wisła Kraków cycling section, which operated in the years 1948-1962. Jakub Zalotyński, Vice President of the Association, expressed his great joy at the fans' involvement and their initiative: "The openness of the Historia Wisła Association to various initiatives is already widely known. This time, we have the opportunity to remind everyone about the Wisła cycling section that existed between 1948 and 1962. We have decided to sponsor a cycling expedition from Wisła to Kraków, organized by the daredevils of the amateur, informal Wisła Cycling Group, covering a considerable distance of nearly 180 km. We are delighted that amateur cyclists who normally support Wisła Kraków have decided to use our help, including by designing group jerseys based on those worn by Wisła Kraków riders years ago. It is a challenge, so I am even more pleased with the invitation to participate directly and ride with the group. I deeply believe we will succeed."

The Wiślacka Grupa Rowerowa (WGR) is an informal community of cycling enthusiasts and die-hard Wisła Kraków fans. For several years, its members have been cycling tens of thousands of kilometers annually, discussing cycling, scenic routes, and their achievements. The group, which originated in the stands and on platforms like Twitter (now X) and the popular Strava app, organizes annual competitions for the highest mileage. The entire project is coordinated by Daniel Kazała, Jakub Kucharczuk, and Mariusz Stryczek.

"We have shared experiences and insights from our routes many times as part of the WGR. The trip from Wisła Uzdrowisko, where the Vistula Cycle Route begins, was always close to our intentions. Can you imagine – at least in name – a more Wisła expedition than Wisła – Kraków? Probably not. We are in for a fantastic adventure, culminating in a finish at Reymonta 22. I believe the participants will enjoy it so much that it may one day become a recurring event, taking place annually around Wisła Kraków Day," says Maks Michalczak, former spokesman for Wisła Kraków and one of the originators of the trip.

The route the cyclists will take is not the easiest. The Vistula Cycling Route is a beautiful yet demanding path, offering both enchanting views and numerous off-road challenges. The expedition also aims to promote a healthy lifestyle and physical activity among fans. This long-distance route will be an excellent test of participants' fitness, while also proving that passion for sport knows no bounds.

Sport and history can intertwine, creating compelling, worthwhile initiatives and strengthening bonds within the fan community. This event is not only a tribute to bygone times but also an inspiration for future generations to cultivate traditions and continue the passions of their predecessors.
