Moskal: Confidence must be built from the very first minutes
We return to R22 with the #WISRCH match. On Monday evening, the White Star faces round 4, before which coach Kazimierz Moskal met with journalists at a press conference.
The team's health situation has not changed. The coach cannot use:
- Igor Łasicki, Jesus Alfaro, Igor Sapała, Dawid Szot, Bartosz Talar, Enis Fazlagić, Kacper Duda, Jakub Stępak and Joseph Colley.
Wisła Kraków has had defensive problems recently. How does the coach intend to improve this aspect? "Looking at recent matches – especially when we conceded goals – you can draw such conclusions. However, looking also at the medical report, our options are very limited. Igor Łasicki started training with the team, but he only completed two training sessions. We hope that his ailments are behind him and that he will soon be able to fight for a place in the matchday squad. Or even fight for a place in the starting eleven. At the moment, we don't have any great opportunities in this formation. What can we do? Focus on what I've already mentioned, on the tasks we have to perform. Because the goals we conceded were the result of simple mistakes. The very clear behaviors that should work in these situations didn't work, and that's why we conceded goals. Of course, we all need, and I'm thinking about the team here, more confidence. This confidence needs to be built from the first minutes of each match. I think we should focus on this, to go into the match well-prepared. With confidence, and to build that confidence with every minute," began coach Moskal.
In Trnava, Kamil Broda was in charge of Wisła's goal. Will he be in the starting lineup this time? "Kamil got his chance because, as I said after the match, he worked well and looked good. He also played well in that match, especially in the first half. However, we still have training today, and after that we'll make decisions about the goalkeeping lineup, as well as the individual outfield positions," he added.
Frederico Duarte, who recently joined Wisła, also needs to work on his physical condition. Will playing in matches lead to better fitness? "I think this applies to more players. This is the only way we can build their fitness, because there's no time for regular training right now. We realize that. I mentioned it too. We don't want to cheat here; they joined us later. It was obvious from the start that Tamas was in slightly better physical condition. Frederico has bigger problems, and we simply have to wait. Through training, whatever it is, but also through time spent on the pitch, we hope that this time will shorten so that he is in optimal condition," he said.
Dawid Olejarka wasn't included in the matchday squad for #SPAWIS. When asked if he was losing the competition, the coach replied: "That's how it looks at the moment. I know every player is hoping to be trusted, given a chance, but we have twenty-something players in the squad, and training shows who's at what level. We have competition on the wing, and in that position, number 10, because we've sometimes played against Łukasz Zwoliński and Rodado, so he's really losing the competition at the moment, and that's where my decision comes from. We'll see what happens next, because sometimes things happen in life, and I don't want to prejudge it."
The Chorzów team has changed significantly between seasons. How does the coach assess the Blues? "Indeed, Ruch, in terms of the squad, is undergoing a major overhaul. I think so, just like us. The only thing that's remained is the coach. He's the same. I believe his idea of Ruch's game hasn't changed, but it all takes time. So it's difficult to definitively assess someone's current form after three rounds. This squad has definitely changed so much and needs time to work together," he continued.
The R22 is expected to see a high attendance, similar to international matches. Do the players feel better in front of such a large crowd, under the circumstances of the match in Pruszków, for example? "I think so. Playing at home in front of a large crowd is supposed to be an advantage for us. It's clear that we're dissatisfied with the two previous matches in the first league. I believe we should have won at least one of them. But in such difficult moments, the help and support of the fans is very much needed. I believe this will be our advantage. It's hard to imagine us feeling the pressure of our own fans coming to watch us," he noted.
Frequent matches don't give the coach much room to prepare for matches. "There's really no time for rest or training, because with this type of game, there's also travel, and you have to do everything you can to utilize a little of this and a little of that. We did a little work yesterday. Today we have a warm-up, where we'll also want to do something. It probably won't be the typical warm-up like in the weekly micro-cycle, but oh well. We have to come to terms with it and get used to it, because this is what it's going to be like for some time," he announced.
The match against Spartak also lacked attacking power. Is efficiency also a problem for the R22 coaching staff? "My biggest regret is that this was the second game in a row where we scored first and couldn't capitalize on the opportunity to score a second and play the match calmly. There were certainly such opportunities, and we could have done so both in Pruszków and Trnava. Obviously, even a 2-0 goal doesn't guarantee success, but I think it makes the game much easier. That confidence we're talking about can be built this way," he analyzed.
Wisła's last match with a full squad was in May. What can be done to avoid playing shorthanded again? "My words were the same as in the press conference after that match. It's a responsibility everyone has to take. These red cards come and go. In this last case, it was a pointless card. However, I don't want to keep bringing this topic up, lest it be brought up again. I hope this streak comes to an end and we'll play the full 90 minutes of eleven-on-eleven in the league," he said.
The media reported that Marcelo was set to return to Wawel. How does the coach recall his time with the defender? "I worked with Marcelo for a very short time, because if I remember correctly, in 2010, when I joined Coach Kasperczak's staff, Marcelo was still with us. He went to a training camp in Barsinghausen, and I had the opportunity to work with him individually a few times. I think a lot of water has flowed through Wisła since then, and the player has changed as well. As for whether there's such a thing, I haven't heard of it, although I know that in the club we're constantly talking about the fact that in our current situation, we need to look for someone," he said.
Marc Carbó has extended his contract with Wisła and will be a player until at least 2026. How important is this player in Kazimierz Moskal's deck of cards? "He's a very important player. Especially now that we've lost another key player, a youth player. I'm thinking here of Kacper Duda. We certainly felt Marc's absence from the league, and it's fortunate that his suspension has ended and he'll be able to play tomorrow. For me, one problem has definitely been solved, and you could say a pebble has been lifted from my heart," he revealed.
A friendly match is being planned in the stands at R22. Does the coach like this kind of atmosphere? "Regarding the stands, it's great when the match is played in a friendly atmosphere. The atmosphere in the stands is certainly welcome and pleasant. However, I wouldn't want that to spill over onto the pitch. For us, this is a very important match, played at home. There has to be a lot of fight and determination, and that friendship can be shown after the match," concluded coach Kazimierz Moskal.
