Mariusz Jop after #WISSTW: I think we can be satisfied
Friday evening saw plenty of excitement at the R22. Wisła Kraków emerged victorious from their match against Stal Stalowa Wola, defeating the visiting team 5-0. How did coach Mariusz Jop sum up the match? Here's the post-match press conference.
"Congratulations to the team, but also to the fans, because it was truly a pleasure to be here today. An interesting evening that I think gave us a lot of positive emotions. Lots of goals, zero behind. I think we can be happy," began the White Star coach. "Of course, there's also some bad news; we don't know exactly how big the problem is yet, but the situation with Alan is definitely in question for now," Mariusz Jop explained.
During the match against Stal Stalowa Wola, Wisła Kraków captain Alan Uryga suffered a serious injury. When asked about the player's current condition, coach Mariusz Jop said: "It's about the knee. Alan went for an MRI, and we're now waiting for the results to see exactly what happened."
Next week, Wisła will face Stal Rzeszów away, and then begin preparations for the playoffs. What will the Wisła players' micro-cycles look like? "We will be preparing in two ways," announced coach Mariusz Jop. "Players who are unable to play in Sunday's match in Rzeszów will undergo a slightly different micro-cycle, focused on preparing for Thursday's match. The remaining players will train according to their standard schedule. We are also taking this match very seriously," emphasized the coach.
During the post-match press conference, a question arose about the planned youth player for the match against Stal Rzeszów, especially since Kacper Duda will be unable to play. Maciej Kuziemka and Patryk Letkiewicz were among the potential replacements. Coach Mariusz Jop addressed the matter, noting: "We also have Filip Baniowski, who is returning from injury and has been training with us at full speed this week, so he will also be considered. However, yes, we are planning to bring someone from the second team into training," he announced.
During the match against Stal Stalowa Wola, Mariusz Kutwa and Wiktor Biedrzycki were once again missing, as they are still recovering from injuries. When asked about their chances of returning before the playoffs, coach Mariusz Jop replied succinctly: "Speaking of Mariusz Kutwa and Wiktor Biedrzycki, it's difficult for me to answer that question because I don't know whether either of them will be available for the playoffs."
After a very long injury layoff, Joseph Colley returned to the pitch. When asked about his performance, coach Mariusz Jop couldn't hide his satisfaction: "As for Joseph, it was a positive performance after such a long absence. Maybe one unnecessary attempt at a shot from 30 meters, a bit of a miss," he said with a smile. "But other than that, it was pretty decent." The coach also revealed that Colley has a good chance of starting in the upcoming match in Rzeszów.
At the end of the post-match press conference, coach Mariusz Jop was asked about the squad situation in the context of suspended players and who might feature in midfield against Stal Rzeszów. "James is available, Sukiennicki is available, Jesus Alfaro can play because he also played in that position. Duarte can play as a number eight, as can Kuziemka, who played in that position in many friendlies during the preseason," the coach explained. "We have various options here," the White Star coach concluded.
