Mikulec: Every player wants to play in front of such stands
Wisła Kraków hosted Kosovo's KF Llapi in their first cup match. Goals from Igor Sapała and Angel Rodado gave the R22 side a 2-0 victory, putting them in a much better position for the return match next week. After the match, we spoke with the White Star's new defender, Rafał Mikulec.
"I'm very happy with how we started the season. We played a good match. I think the game got a little out of control later on and was more difficult for us, but overall we're very happy to be going away with a two-goal advantage," he began. "We had a very good understanding of the opponent and knew how they played and what they could do. I think they surprised us with how well they played the ball from the goalkeeper. Above all, we need to keep possession longer, especially up front. A 2-0 result is dangerous, but we have to do everything we can to celebrate promotion next week," he added.
The match against KF Llapi took a lot of effort from both teams. How are the R22 players feeling? "Physically, we feel very good. Fortunately, no one was injured during the match. It's also worth mentioning that the players are returning to full strength after injuries. I think the squad situation will improve with each match, as it's quite limited, but there's plenty of time, and I think the management will work to bring in someone else," he said.
In the cup match, Rafał Mikulec played left back. Was this a particular challenge for him? "I played left back at my previous club, so I felt good in this match. Giannis, who arrived a little later than me, had more time to prove himself to the coach. I think there's a lot of competition in that position," he continued.
Of particular note is the fact that the cup match generated a lot of interest from Wisła fans, as the White Star's new signing remarked. "It was great! We all want to play in front of stands like this; you definitely feel like he's our '12th man.' Before a match, I try to switch off for a moment to focus on the task at hand. I think I managed to do that and went into the match calmly, but the atmosphere was certainly heated!" he noted.
