Mikulec: We played like ŁKS played at home
Saturday evening was marked by the highlight of the round. Wisła Kraków hosted ŁKS Łódź at home. After an incredibly exciting match, the Wawel team emerged victorious, winning 2-1. After the game, we spoke with Rafał Mikulec. What did he say?
Analyzing Saturday's match, the Wisła Kraków defender noted that not everything went as the players from Wawel would have liked, but the White Star players were able to draw the right conclusions. "I don't think the first half was poor, we just had a slow start. We dominated the rest of the game. The coach told us to keep playing our game, not to make rash moves. That resulted in us winning the match," the Wisła defender began.
When asked about tactics for the match, Rafał Mikulec said: "We knew ŁKS would be pressing us high. We can only be angry with ourselves for starting the match that way, making poor choices and inaccurate passes. ŁKS was fueled by this. Then we improved our game, and it showed on the pitch."
The White Star defender's willingness to play forward was evident in his play. Mikulec frequently joined in offensive moves, giving his teammates the opportunity to finish off plays. "The coach expects me to play a bit more forward; I play a bit higher up the pitch than Bartek Jaroch. I like that and I'm happy with it. I feel very comfortable playing offensively," he noted. "I definitely felt very good from the start; I don't think I lost a single defensive game, but I need to analyze it calmly before I can say anything more," he added.
The White Star defender also commented on how the Wisła players reacted to what happened on the pitch during the break. "We were calm in the locker room. We knew we had finished the first half well, even though we were losing 1-0. We were convinced we would come out motivated for the second half and play well, and I think that's exactly what happened. We kept pushing ourselves with each attack," he noted.
The match against ŁKS could have been treated as a kind of rematch for the previous meeting between these teams. Was that how the players from Wawel approached it? "We put the previous match against ŁKS behind us. The coach reminds us that every match is different. We played just like ŁKS played at home. I'm glad we dominated our opponent and won this match," Mikulec stated.
Wisła's players now face two crucial matches – both against Polonia Warsaw. One will be played in the Polish Cup, the other in the league. "We definitely want to get revenge on Polonia for the match, where we only drew, because we started the season on a mediocre note. We're going there for three points, as we do in every match. As for the cup competitions, we want to repeat our Polish Cup win," he concluded.
