Mikulec: We had our chances
On Friday evening, Wisła Kraków faced Stal Rzeszów in the 17th round of the Betclic 1 League. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, with both teams having their moments of dominance. After the match, we spoke with Rafał Mikulec, who provided the assist for Łukasz Zwoliński's equalizer.
Although their opponents took the lead first, Wisła quickly responded. "I think we started the match well. We had it under control, but we were needlessly exposed to counterattacks. Stal took the initiative then. Unfortunately, we had to chase the score earlier in the game. Fortunately, we quickly equalized and had our chances to win, but we lacked the finishing touch," Mikulec analyzed.
The defender highlighted the problems that had surfaced at the beginning of the season. "Those old demons are coming back – efficiency, efficiency, and more efficiency," he emphasized, commenting on the lack of capitalizing on opportunities. However, the player himself played a significant role in the match, notching an assist. "I don't know if it was really an assist, but since everyone says so, I'm very happy with it. An assist is an assist," he added with a smile.
Late in the match, the White Star created several good chances to score the winning goal, and one of them almost ended in success when the ball hit the post. Unfortunately, the referee blew for offside, and the R22 team was literally centimeters away from winning. "We always play until the end. We had a few chances towards the end that could have ended in a goal, but we lacked a bit of luck," summarized Rafał Mikulec.
There was no shortage of young players on the pitch during the match, and the coach is increasingly focusing on them. How does Rafał Mikulec assess their contribution? "I think they're looking better and better. Kutwa has definitely gained a lot of confidence. We're happy to see the young players playing and standing out. They're showing their worth more and more," he said.
