Mariusz Jop before #WISSTA: We always try to dominate from the very beginning
Wisła Kraków faces the 14th round of their Betclic 1 League campaign, where they will host Stal Rzeszów. Before Sunday's match, Wisła coach Mariusz Jop met with journalists at a press conference.
Are you preparing any changes to the squad for Sunday's match? "From a coach's perspective, we can say that these changes are unnecessary at this point, because the team was functioning very well and we won by a large margin on a difficult pitch, so unless there are any forced chances, we are not planning any major changes." - the trainer began.
Will we see Marko Bozic in the matchday squad? "Yes, he will be in the match squad, he will be in the twenty" - he replied.
How do you assess the rival team - Stal Rzeszów? "For me, this is a team that definitely has more offensive strengths. A team that can attack positionally, is dangerous in a fast attack, but has a lot of problems when it comes to defense, where the defensive structure changes quite often. Sometimes they even have a six-man line, a 6-3-1, and this formation sometimes evolves – there's a five-man line, and there are many interesting changes. Besides, the team is very young, and we know what that means. When the moment is right, these players can definitely show off a lot of unconventional moves, and there's a lot of finesse. However, if something doesn't work out, apart from Thill, who is an experienced player and a leading figure in attack, as he probably has the most assists in the team, this team can also get lost."
The best way for Stal to open the scoring early in the match? "It would be ideal if we could open the match quickly. Besides, we always try to dominate from the start, impose our style of play, especially playing at home with the support of our fans; it's certainly an easier situation for us."
Were you relieved that more fans will be able to sit in the R22 stands after the decision was changed? "This is very good news for us, for the team, but also very good news for the fans that they will be able to watch this match live. The weather is forecast to be nice tomorrow, so I encourage those who haven't bought tickets yet to do so." - he said.
Another busy season is starting for the players – a league match on Sunday, followed by the Polish Cup Round of 16 on Wednesday, and an away match in Głogów to finish the week. Does this mean you're planning to rotate your squad? "Of course. However, tomorrow's match is the most important for us, and the prism of what happens during the match will also determine who to take off early and who to bring on. After that, we'll manage, primarily taking into account player fatigue and the number of minutes played during the season. We'll be able to make some adjustments here for the cup match, but in a way that ensures we have a strong group ready for the match against Chrobry, who are also a team that can be said to be surprising and scores a lot of points. Stal is also a team that's high up there; there's very little difference between them and being in the playoff zone, so they're definitely in good shape." - concluded Mariusz Jop.
