Mariusz Jop before #WISMIE: It's going to be a good match, with a good performance from our side

Before tomorrow's match against Miedź Legnica, the coaching staff discussed the team's preparations, game plan, and current squad situation. All players are ready to fight for three points at home.

Team's health status.
"Basically, all players, those who have not had longer injuries, are available, so we have no negative changes," began Wisła coach Mariusz Jop.

Wisła Kraków did not travel to Wrocław.
"We certainly identify with what the president is doing. Being together also means being together in such a situation. For me, the two most important things are that what we do, everything we do, we do for the fans. Football without fans makes no sense. The second issue - we simply expect equal treatment and fairness. I would like to close this topic with these two issues," concluded the White Star coach.

Past and previous matches with Miedź.
"Indeed, the history is that the last four matches were one draw and three defeats. However, that is history, and tomorrow we will write a new, fresh one. Of course, we are prepared for this match both mentally and conceptually. We spent the whole week working on this on the field. I am an optimist; I saw how the team works, with what attitude, with what verve, with what energy, so everything will be verified on the field, as always. I have reasons to believe that it will be a good match with a good performance from our side," he answered confidently.

In recent matches, Wisła conceded goals "of their own accord."
"It's hard to find an antidote for such simple individual errors, but I might expand a bit on the thought I mentioned earlier, about the game concept, because it's quite a broad term, and it might make it easier to understand the logic of actions in individual matches. If we open from the goal and the opponent sends four players to high press, it means six stay around the midfield. Most often, we build with the goalkeeper plus six players, i.e., four center-backs and two defensive midfielders. It's easy to calculate that we have a 7-on-4 situation, and high up, we have six opponents against our four players. Now the question is, is this a space to play short or not? An open question. The second option that can happen is that the opponent's structure is slightly different, meaning five at the back and five going for a high press. Again, the question arises, if we have six plus the goalkeeper, i.e., 7-on-5, is there space to play or not? Another option that happens - the opponent sends six players, meaning it's practically a one-on-one setup. Again, the question, play or not play? Now, of course, analyzing the opponent, we knew that Znicz most often sends four players for a high press, so we have a 7 plus 4 structure. There is also a second important thing, is it an aggressive press or is it rather a passive setup? We knew that Znicz rather uses a passive setup, because I think even Majewski said in one of the programs that Ciepiela, who came on, broke away, and we made an individual mistake. Now the question is: which option to choose for a given match? In my opinion, in a situation where the opponent is passive and we have almost half the field to play in a 7-on-4 situation, on the pitch we have, which is a very good pitch, there is no basis to play a direct pass in such a situation, simply. Football is about gaining space, creating time for the player with the ball in the attacking phase. That's the first thing. The second thing is that with a pass, of course, we could have done it so that we went with ten to the middle of the pitch, but there is one difference there, which is that if we build from the back, we are in possession of the ball. If we clear it from the five-meter box, we are not in possession of the ball, meaning we have to retrieve it. Of course, this is a concept, but is it a concept that is always effective? No. Please look at how Jagiellonia Białystok conceded a goal to Lechia Gdańsk for 3-0. It would seem what we would want in a situation, because the coach was supposed to anticipate that someone would make an individual mistake. I will say that I do not have such ability to anticipate that. Conceptually, I believe, I will repeat it again, I believe that the idea, the logic suggested the actions we took. Of course, an individual mistake will mean we conceded a goal. Does that mean we have to change the concept? No. I have answered this question sufficiently in detail. I think I have perhaps brought closer the reasons and the way of thinking of the coaching staff in the context of opening the game from the goal," coach Jop described in great detail.

Miedź Legnica - a brief characteristic.
"Certainly, Miedź is a team that engages in a lot of duels. They are at the top of that ranking. It's a team that has players in its ranks with predispositions for quick attacks, and they do it, because that's how we conceded the goal scored by Mioć. Another thing they look for is certainly shots from a distance and set pieces, because they have a fairly tall team. These are the main things regarding Miedź Legnica. It's also a team that likes to build from the back, they try to do it. We'll see if they do it tomorrow. More or less, that's it regarding the opponent, these are the main characteristics of this team," he described the opponent.

The match with Górnik Łęczna has already been scheduled. Several Wisła players have been called up to the national team.
"This is an unfortunate date because we are probably the team that provides the most players to the national team. Assuming there will be five or four, these matches are actually two days before that date, meaning the 31st. There's also the youth team's trip to Montenegro, so it's extremely unfavorable for us. I think the club is already moving in the direction of trying to postpone this match to another date," he concluded.

If the match cannot be postponed, are you considering refusing to send players to national team training camps?
"I wouldn't go that far for now; let's wait to see what happens procedurally, and we will consider other solutions if the match is not postponed," he replied.

Was the microcycle disrupted by the lack of a match in the previous round?
"We were preparing for the match against Śląsk all the time. As a coach, and the team, we had to be ready all the time because we didn't know which way it would eventually go. So we were always ready to play that match. Eventually, the decision was made that we would stay. Indeed, we had an internal game on Saturday, and then we proceeded according to what we do in a classic microcycle, meaning there was a day off, and from Monday, work on tomorrow's match, preparation for that match. No major assumptions regarding motor skills were disrupted there," he replied.

"We were mentally, physically, and conceptually ready to play that match. It's obvious that a player, a footballer, a coach wants to play, because that's what we do it for. However, as I said, we are together in every situation, and at this moment, both the players and the staff followed the thread, the way of thinking that the president saw," the coach added.

Compared to the previous match with Miedź, there's a chance the entire defensive line will be different.
"Looking at the statistics this season, we certainly cannot have any complaints regarding the defensive play of the entire team, because you cannot look only at the four defenders and the goalkeeper, we have the fewest goals conceded, but when it comes to offensive actions, we are also at the top of this ranking. I am not looking for analogies to what happened a year ago, that's a very, very long time in football, so comparing that match, the squad, I think at this moment makes little sense from my perspective. We must focus on what is ahead of us," the coach replied confidently.

Patryk Letkiewicz received a national team call-up. It's clear the young goalkeeper is working hard. Can decision-making be improved in training?
"First and foremost, it's experience, concentration, and repeating this in training so that I have to make a decision when to play direct and when to look for a short pass. These are trained things; now, experience, which Patryk is gaining, certainly has a big impact here, and not just him, because we have several young players, and I think they are all making progress. Of course, the specifics of the position mean that usually, it ends in a goal from the goalkeeper, but I think Patryk already has a lot of experience from the first league, in teams, in senior football, because he also played in Wieczysta, gaining his first experience. I believe in him as a player, and I think we will often talk about him in a positive light. I hope that will be in the next match.

Marko Bozić is training, but when will he be considered for selection?
"Marko has been training at full speed for several weeks now, and I think every week brings him closer to that good form he had at the start of preparations; he is normally considered for the starting eleven."

Kuba Krzyżanowski was substituted quite quickly in the last match.
"Regarding Kuba, this is also a situation I might elaborate on. You know me, and you know I'm the last person to pressure players to go on the field not fully healthy. If there's no information that I'm not 100%, someone trains regularly all week. Of course, a slight ache, I think most of the team feels a slight ache, that's how it is in football. If there's no information during the warm-up that something is wrong, I'm not 100%, then I think we can't look for an excuse after the match or after the break that I wasn't 100%, that's not the right direction. We also talk about this with young players. If you go on the field and don't report beforehand that something is wrong with me, that I'm not 100%, because if such a situation existed, Kuba wouldn't have played from the start, then let's not look for such an excuse, because that's not how it's done," coach Jop described.

"Kuba is training, he's still doing a few things individually, but we'll see if he's considered for the starting eleven now, or if he's considered for the squad of twenty. We still have training today," the coach concluded.

Does the coach consider fielding two strikers simultaneously – Sanchez and Rodado?
"Such a solution is also being considered. If Jordi were to play in the starting eleven, he is a tall number nine, and that also gives us several other solutions, not only in terms of building attacks, but primarily in terms of finishing in the penalty area," the coach replied.

Wisła makes mistakes in defense, but there have also been problems with effectiveness, a lack of luck?
"I think looking for an explanation in luck is probably not a good direction. Simply, our job is to create even more and work on effectiveness, and we are doing that. I think we will also return to the effectiveness that we had at the beginning of the season," he convinced those gathered.

Maciej Kuziemka has lost some of his luster lately.
"We are working with him all the time, in terms of training, on the pitch. I talked to Maciek several times. He is a very ambitious guy, and if we look at where he was a year ago and where he is now, we see significant progress. Not only young players have moments where not everything goes their way. In every team, there are players who are considered stars but have weaker moments, so Maciek himself shouldn't beat himself up too much, even though I know he is a very ambitious guy and demands a lot from himself. The solution to this is quite simple. Firstly, training and repetition. Maciej does this because he never had a problem with it, he never got carried away, even when he played great matches. He was always eager to work and still is. This is a very important, good trait of his. And the second thing is to give yourself a bit of a chance, that you can also make a mistake, that you don't have to be one of the best in every match. That's two. Three is to simplify actions with the ball. This is also a solution that helps confidence return," coach Mariusz Jop concluded.
