Mariusz Jop after #PGMWIS: We appreciate our rival and we are also happy that we have one point
Coach Mariusz Jop summed up the draw against Pogoń Grodzisk Mazowiecki. He appreciated the point earned in difficult conditions and analyzed the match. He also commented on Julius Ertlthaler's absence and the goal by a former Wisła reserves player.
"Today's playing conditions were certainly not easy for either team. I think both tried to build multi-pass attacks and tried to play football. We certainly value this point very much, as there was a moment in the second half when Pogoń took the initiative after scoring a goal. I also wanted to congratulate Coach Stokowiec and the work he's doing. He has a lot of young, interesting, promising players. He knows how to develop them, and it's no coincidence that this team scored as many points as it did," coach Mariusz Jop summed up the match against Pogoń.
"We appreciate our opponent and are happy to have one point. We have a derby match coming up soon and that's all we're thinking about at the moment," he added.
Worse start to the second half.
"There were a few simple, unforced losses somewhere in the build-up, precisely because we tried to play the ball on this difficult pitch. That's probably one factor. Secondly, there were moments when the opponent was more aggressive, closing the gap to the ball carrier, and that was also sometimes the result of our mistakes. I think the most difficult moment was after the goal, which we conceded from a free kick. The young opposing team pushed forward with more emotion, and Leta played brilliantly in several situations. The match simply unfolded that way. I regret that we weren't more effective in the first half. We might not have had many chances, but Roda could have kept his composure. He even had plenty of time to receive the ball. The first half was definitely under our control, the second – we lacked some of that control," the White Star coach analyzed.
Julius Ertlthaler's absence.
"He has a slight muscle problem. I hope he'll be available for the next match against Wieczysta. We'll see how his rehabilitation progresses. He had additional tests done and it doesn't look too serious, but we'd rather not risk the player being sidelined for an extended period," the coach argued.
Jakub Niewiadomski, who recently played for Wisła's reserves, scored a goal for the opponents.
"I'm glad Kuba is back after many setbacks and injuries. He played his second match from the start and scored a goal. I know he can do it, because even as a reserve player he scored five or six goals. He's a guy with good timing in the penalty area. I wish him luck, I wish him good health, so he can develop, because he has the potential to play at a good level," coach Jop said of his former player.
Goal situation for Pogoń.
"We made a slight mistake. We unnecessarily put three tall players against the wall. It was too far away to take our best heading players out of the zone. We've already explained that, and I think we won't make such mistakes in the future," concluded coach Mariusz Jop.
