Mikulec: We showed great effectiveness
Wisła Kraków played another league match. This time, their opponent was Odra Opole. The White Star, playing at home, comfortably defeated their opponents 5-0, securing a perfect record. After the game, we spoke with Rafał Mikulec, defender of the Wawel team.
Wisła Kraków played a really good match on Friday evening, defeating their opponent 5-0. The Kraków defender pointed out that in the match against their last opponent, Wisła improved on what had been lacking recently. "We're mainly happy that we played two even halves. In previous matches, we lacked the effectiveness we showed in this match. We're happy that we scored the first goal so soon after the start of the second half," he began, adding: "After the first half, we were angry with ourselves for not finding the net. We had in the back of our minds that it might end like the match against Warta. Fortunately, we managed to start the second half well and win by a large margin," Mikulec noted.
The positive aspect is certainly the fact that the Kraków team won by a large margin, but if they had capitalized on every opportunity, the score would have been even higher. "I'll say, jokingly, that we have to leave something for the next matches. But we can only be happy with how it turned out and play the next matches with a similar result," the defender stated.
In the match against Odra Opole, coach Mariusz Jop made one—rather unusual—change to the lineup. From the first minute, young goalkeeper Patryk Letkiewicz appeared between the posts. "He was confident in his play. I don't think he had much reason to intervene. From what I understand, Odra probably didn't have a shot on target, but it's great that he had the opportunity to show his skills in a match like this," said Mikulec.
Continuing the topic of coach Mariusz Jop, we asked the defender about the last few days under the new manager. "We definitely showed great efficiency today, which is what we practiced. The same goes for set pieces. That's been a weakness for us lately, and I think we did well today, even though the opponent didn't pose much of a threat. But we're glad we played with zero at the back, and our practice in efficiency also paid off," Mikulec said, adding: "I really hope for matches like that. I'd also like us to open the scoring in the first half and then just dominate."
