Mariusz Jop after #WISPGS: Congratulations to the team on their fifth victory
Wisła's team added another point to their tally by defeating Pogoń Siedlce! Wisła's coach, Mariusz Jop, was asked for his comment after the #WISPGS match at a press conference.
"In the first half, I think we moved the ball a little too slowly. The elements we want to use in our build-up play in a positional attack—it didn't quite work. The opponent was low and flat in a 4-4-2 formation. They basically moved to five players in defense, because the winger focused on the player who provided width. However, we had a few set pieces. We also had our chances, because Biedrzycki had one. Duarte scored after one of those chances. I'm glad that the elements we're working on are earning us points in the match. In the second half, I think we had more control, more building on what we wanted. We had a few situations that could have been handled better and closed the match out earlier. But I think we have to be happy that we won, that we won against an opponent who, I don't think, is easy for anyone. And it won't be easy for the teams that follow. Congratulations to the team on their fifth victory, another league victory. And I also wanted to wish a peaceful, healthy holiday season to the fans and to everyone gathered here." - he assessed the meeting.
This is the fifth victory in a row. We are happy, but the toughest matches are ahead, like the one next week - "I agree that the most important match is ahead of us, that is, against Termalica" - he said.
In recent matches, you've rotated your center-backs. What prompted the decision to include Wiktor Biedrzycki in the starting eleven rather than Igor Łasicki? "Now we've had a longer break after the last match, so for this particular opponent, I thought we'd be building more, attacking more, and from my perspective, Wiktor has a slightly better introduction than Igor. Igor has other strengths. It's not certain that there won't be a change in the next match." - he replied.
Another match for Łukasz Zwoliński, and another without a goal. The striker could have broken his losing streak in Saturday's match, but was he unlucky? "I think it's just the player's mentality. Łukasz tries hard and works hard. However, there are times when you can get too tense in these situations because you really want to. So we definitely can't deny him his desire, commitment, and hard work in training. But the fact is, this streak is quite long. But I believe in him and I know he's a player who will unlock himself and give us a lot of joy." - he assessed.
James Igbekeme's fourth yellow card eliminates him from the Nieciecza game. Considering Kacper Duda's strong introduction from the bench, will he be the one to replace the White Star midfielder? "I think we have a wealth of options in midfield here, with Kacper Duda and Marc Carbó. Olivier Sukiennicki can also play, so we have options. Of course, it's a shame about James, as he's been in great form in recent games. He's been sent off, and that will be a chance for other players. I think we'll do well here."
Last weekend, a rugby tournament was held at Wisła Stadium. Did you feel that the pitch was different because of it? "I didn't notice the pitch looking any different than usual, so I don't think it had any impact." - concluded Mariusz Jop.
