Leader defeated: #WISBBT 2:0
In Friday's match of the 13th round of the Betclic 1st League, Wisła Kraków defeated table leaders Bruk-Bet Termalica Nieciecza 2-0! Łukasz Zwoliński scored twice for the White Star, delighting the fans gathered at R22.
The first phase of the match looked as if each side was trying to gauge their opponent's current form. We saw the beginnings of several interesting offensive moves, which never quite materialized. After fifteen minutes, Rodado had a good chance to open the scoring, but the Spaniard carried the ball too far and was stopped by the emerging goalkeeper, Chovan.
Wisła clearly felt this was the perfect moment to increase the tempo and force Termalica to play low defense. The players in red shirts circled the opponents' penalty area, creating more and more shooting opportunities. This resulted in Łukasz Zwoliński finding the net in the 27th minute, having unfortunately been caught offside. Encouraged to attack, Mariusz Jop's men came close to taking the lead again in the 31st minute. Tamas Kiss lost a one-on-one with the Nieciecza goalkeeper, and his attempted rebound hit the post and went wide of the visiting goal.
The end of the first half was dominated by set pieces. First, Wisła Kraków created a dangerous opportunity after a cross, and Adrian Chovan had to finally put an end to the chaos. In similar circumstances, Patryk Letkiewicz also displayed remarkable concentration at the other end of the pitch, confidently catching a powerful shot from Kamil Zapolnik. It's safe to say that the fans gathered at R22 witnessed a truly entertaining spectacle on Friday, the only thing missing being goals. We look forward to those after the break!
Confirm the advantage
Bruk-Bet Termalica started the second half with two substitutions. Taras Zaviiskyi and Kwasi Fassbender came on. The visitors improved their forward play, thanks largely to the German striker's introduction. Coach Marcin Brosz's team enjoyed more possession in the White Star's half, but found no openings in the home side's well-functioning defense.
As the minutes ticked by, the match became a bit tense, frequently interrupted by illegal tackles. Just when the pace seemed to have stalled, Łukasz Zwoliński found a clear space and ruthlessly punished the leader's late defense. The White Star striker capitalized on Baena's alert pass and fired a powerful shot past the helpless Elephants' goalkeeper! The first goal didn't come until the 78th minute. However, it didn't matter at that point, as with about a dozen minutes remaining, the Kraków team were on the verge of securing the crucial three points.
After taking the lead, Wisła displayed considerable footballing maturity. They didn't focus solely on defense and continued to work hard to secure every possession. The Nieciecza team couldn't counter this and couldn't find an offensive rhythm. Wisła Kraków, however, had no major problems in this regard, and Łukasz Zwoliński re-established the score in stoppage time, scoring a double header.
