End of the season and end of dreams: #WISBBT 0:3
In the final round of the 34th Fortuna 1. Liga season, Wisła Kraków faced Bruk-Bet Termalica Nieciecza at home. This match was crucial for Wisła Kraków in securing a spot in the Ekstraklasa playoffs. Despite expectations, the match ended 0-3, and the R22 side finished the season in 10th place.
The visitors didn't come to Krakow to defend. Coach Brosz's men started the match with a high formation and aggressive pressing, which earned them their first shot on target of the match. However, Anton Chichkan was well prepared, confidently catching the ball in his gloves. Wisła's possession grew with each passing minute. In the 17th minute, Baena's burst of momentum on the right wing resulted in a yellow card and a close-range free kick. The ball nearly found its way to one of the home strikers, but ultimately ended up in Loska's hands.
Just when it seemed the Kraków team was taking control of the match in the 25th minute, a scenario we've seen in recent matches unfolded. The referee was summoned to the VAR monitor and, after reviewing the replay pointed out by his assistants, issued a direct red card to Marc Carbó. The White Star was once again forced to play most of the match with 10 men. The misfortunes didn't end there. In the 35th minute, David Juncà was injured. The injury proved so serious that the left-back was unable to leave the field on his own, requiring the intervention of a stretcher. The final stages of the first half were marked by bold offensive moves from both sides. Due to an earlier video review and a forced substitution, three minutes of stoppage time were added. Despite this, no further goals were scored before the break, and a fifteen-minute break awaited us.
45 minutes of hope
Wisła Kraków began the second 45 minutes with a forced tactical adjustment. Igor Sapała came on for Szymon Sobczak in a weakened midfield. Albert Rude's players emerged from the locker room visibly encouraged to fight for the goals that were essential to their playoff spot. Wisła's efforts were not lacking in courage, but it was the players in navy blue who took the lead first. First, a long-range shot hit the post, and Maciej Wolski's rebound was beyond Chichkan's ability to save. The score was 0-1 from the 53rd minute. The White Star looked for an equalizer, sending long passes into open spaces, while Termalica tried to maintain possession as much as possible. It was after one of their combined moves that Wolski doubled the lead from close range. Unfortunately, the score was 0-2 in the 73rd minute.
Wisła's coaching staff deployed all available attacking players. However, the attempt to turn the game around failed, and in the 89th minute, Jakub Wróbel made it 0-3.
